I want to be mad. Every beat of my blood tells me to be, but I can't do it.
Cade did what I would have, he went and did some work while everyone seemed to be calm and doing their own puttering around.
Instead, someone was pretending to be me.
"Did Silas tell you?"
He nods. "Someone hacked your phone and called her. I told you not to play that game for so long. If it got your rocks off playing with her, there are ways?—"
Cade sighs. "Sorry. Lecture not needed, I know."
"I called. Why didn't you pick up?"
He strides to the car and opens the passenger door. "Because your sister and fucking girl stole my phone. I left it in the kitchen."
"And it wasn't locked?"
"No. I opened it to show Lyndall something when we were playing poker earlier. I didn't reset my lock."
Because my sister saw the passcode. And I'm betting he brought a burner with him. It is so Cade. He can run calls through it, so they won't be traced.
I try to keep my mind on the small things like that. I motion for him to get in, and then I unclip my phone and toss it to him.
"Where's Lyndall?"
Shit. I almost forgot my sister. I'm not leaving her here.
Cade grabs my arm.
"Didn't you hear what I said? Your sister and Lola took my phone. They both left. Together. And your girlfriend stole my car keys and my car."
That brings the smallest smile to my mouth as I gun the motor and burn rubber to the edge of the driveway.
Yeah, there is a part that is low-key impressed by Lola's sneakiness, but...
I hit the brakes. "Where the fuck are we going?"
He looks at me. "I don't know. You have trackers on their phones, right?"
"Right."
"You drive, I will give directions as I track."
I head out onto the road when Cade hums, and I slow to a coast.
"What?"
"This is odd...The tracker's been erased from Lola's phone."
"Lyndall's?" My throat goes tight.
He nods. "Turn left, head south, stay on this road, then take the highway... Lyndall's phone is on here. Her tracker isn't moving. Hang on." He taps on my phone. "She's at Harry's Diner just out of town."
I push down on the accelerator and drive as fast as I can, and when we arrive, I screech to a halt.
The tracker shows her in one spot. Just down the road from Harry's.
But though the signal comes through, there is no sign of anyone in that spot.
