She snorts and searches for her straw with her tongue while staring out at the crowd. “I don’t

know. Because you used to be a bit of a cold fish, so we didn’t really hang out. Besides, this isn’t me.

This is brokenhearted, ready to hump someone, me. Regular me will come back at some point, I’m

sure.”

Janey chokes on her drink. “Ready to hump?” she repeats, sounding shocked. I get it. Janey and I

are a lot more alike than I even understood. I thought that because she had a boyfriend, she was

more…worldly, maybe?

“Yes. My boyfriend stuck his dick in another woman. A bony, bleach-blonde woman. And I need

to get that image out of my head. So I’m going to go out there and pick a man to fornicate with.” She

nods, pleased with her plan, and sways herself to the railing to look for her target.

“I swear she’s not usually like this,” I mumble to Janey.

Janey covers her cheeks with her hands and laughs, but it sounds brittle. “She’s a little wild, but

it’s understandable. She put her trust in someone, and she was betrayed. It’s hard to come back from

that.”

“You sound like you’re speaking from experience.”

She shrugs, attempting to look casual, but I see beneath it to the pain she’s hiding. “Yes, well,

sometimes we have to learn things the hard way.”

“I’m sorry,” I say, leaning in. “For whatever happened.”

She nods stiffly and visibly shakes off the moment. She looks like she’s about to say more when

Abigail screams in absolute joy.

“Hey! I know you guys! C’mere!” She’s waving her arms frantically, smiling like a loon at…Zach,

Jonas, Nick and Declan, standing across the club near the bar.

Oh, my god. Who invited them?

As always, my eyes are locked on Zach. The men are all handsome, but I never get tired of

looking at him. And it’s not just ‘cause he’s beautiful.

Declan leans over the bar and takes Cara’s mouth in an X-rated kiss. They part, and even from up

here I can see the heat between them. Smiling, she rubs at the corner of his mouth, then nods her head

toward us. Abigail’s shouts get their attention at the same time, and they all glance over. I hide with a

squeak, which is dumb, I know. I’m dating one of those men. I work with all of them. But I don’t know

what the rules are here. Do I kiss him? Cara didn’t seem to mind when Declan kissed her. Or would
