“So, you think you’ve done it?”
“Yes. I believe so. I tried several different chemicals—”
“I don’t care how many you’ve tried or what they are,” I say, making his mouth snap into a tight line. “There’s only one thing I care about. Will. It. Work?”
“Yes,” he states coldly. “It has to be tested first, so we will know all effects on the body, along with side effects if used with other things.”
“I don’t give a shit about other things. I’m not the FDA. You don’t get a warning label on meth or heroin.”
Dustin chuckles as Joseph turns with a huff to prepare a syringe. When he turns back around, he looks at me questioningly.
“Would you like to do the honors?”
He tries to cover the hopefulness in his voice that I will say yes. That alone gives him away. It’s tainted. He’s either trying to kill me or trying to make me sick. There’s only one way I’ll know for sure if he and Hazel plotted against me.
I reach down and unbuckle my belt to use as a tourniquet. Once I pull it free, I wrap it around Hazel’s arm. Joseph’s mouth gapes open, and Hazel stares at me fearfully.
I lean down, putting my mouth within an inch of hers,as her lips tremble. “Why so scared? Don’t you trust Joseph?”
The sheen of tears is evident, but she doesn’t let them fall as she comes to terms with her betrayal.
Joseph grows visibly upset with my choice. “Hasn’t she been through enough? I’ll take it.”
I tighten the belt on Hazel’s arm. When she cries out from the leather digging into her wounded flesh, I pull even tighter. “Do I need to remind you who’s in charge around here, Joseph?”
His wide eyes and hurried breaths make me smile. Dustin remains spectating, conveying no emotion at all. I love being in control.
“No,” he cowers.
I bring Hazel’s arm up to tap her vein, but it’s already raised from the pressure of the tourniquet. I reach out for the syringe, and Joseph flicks it, expelling the air bubbles. Hesitantly, he hands it over. He’s staring at Hazel with regret and fear as I line up the needle with her vein.
Air sucks between her teeth as I prick her with it and pull back on the plunger. She whimpers slightly as her blood swirls with the solution until they become one. I capture her pleading gaze as I ease the plunger all the way down, pushing it into her bloodstream and releasing the belt so her pulse can shoot it through her body.
My hands slide up her arms and over her shouldersuntil they cup her face. Her eyes glaze over and her lips part on a sigh. “Don’t ever cross me again, lover.” My lips brush deliciously against hers as I whisper, “If you live, I may forgive you.”

Snap: The Drug Taking Mississippi By Storm
Feverishly spreading through the state like a wildfire, and claiming the lives of many, Snap has officials working around the clock to discover everything they can about this new-age drug. What they have found might shock you.
As with most new drugs, copycats have begun to pop up.
After testing several samples apprehended on the streets, Captain Hayes can confirm that the new pill-like drug is similar to that of ADHD medications.
Taken in small doses, Snap is relatively harmless. But the altered version that has caused several fatal overdoses cannot be classified at this time.
State law enforcement is completely baffled. “It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen before, and don’t know where to begin to fight this drug,” Captain Hayes said during a press conference late yesterday.
Police are asking the community to use caution when taking medications, and to not take any medication not prescribed by a physician. They also urge parents to watch their children closely for signs of drug abuse.
If you suspect that someone you know is abusing Snap, or any other drug, seek help immediately. It could save their life.
Captain Hayes went on to say, “We live in a time when drugs are so readily available in our society. No one even bats an eye when they hear thatsomeone overdosed on prescription drugs. And now there is a drug that hooks you fast and can take your life just as quickly. If we thought the war on drugs came to an end, we were wrong. This new drug has caused an army to rise to bring it to an end.”
If you or anyone you know has information about this drug, please contact your local authorities with the details.
