After Jedidiah leftthat evening Trevor called Will.

“It’s about damn time,” Will said when Trevor told him what he wanted. “We’ve been trying to set you two up for weeks. I don’t think Madison is dating anyone exclusively but I don’t really know. What changed your mind?”

Trevor wisely avoided the question, got the number and hung up.No time like the present.Especially since it wasn’t late and all he’d been doing was obsessing over Jedidiah. He punched in the number and was soon talking to his possible date. Madison Harrow seemed nice, over the phone, anyway. But that sort of thing was hard to tell until you met someone in person. Since it was a first date and he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable, Trevor suggested they meet at Booze’s. She said she was working late until Friday so they planned the date for that evening.

By the time Friday evening rolled around Trevor had almost forgotten he’d made a date. In fact, he didn’t remember until Jedidiah suggested she stay late. They’d been working on his BFK app and it was nearly ready to test.

“We’re on a roll,” Jedidiah said. “Do you want me to stay late?”

“Sure—” he started to say and then he remembered. He checked the time. “I forgot. No, I need to get going.”

“Oh, do you have another Bikers For Kids event?”

He wished. “No. I have a date.” Why the hell had he made a date when he didn’t even want to go out? Because it would help him stop thinking about Jedidiah. About what it would be like to kiss her, to hold—

“Oh. Are you going anywhere fun?” She gathered up her stuff, preparing to leave.

“If you consider Booze’s fun.” She gave him a funny look and he added, “It’s a first date and we’ve never met in person, so it seemed like meeting at a place like Booze’s would be best.”

“You’re going on a blind date?” She sounded totally shocked.

“Yeah. So?”

“I wouldn’t think you’d need to be set up with anyone.”

“Thanks. I think.”

“It wasn’t an insult. I just figured you could find your own dates.”

He shrugged. “Will and Mel have been after me to go out with this woman for a while now.”

“You don’t owe me an explanation. I was just curious.” She looked around. “Have you seen my tablet? I know I brought it but I set it down someplace when I started working on my computer.”

He looked around. “Over there beside your purse,” he said, motioning to one of the tables. Was it his imagination or did Jedidiah seem…upset? Miffed? She’d definitely been surprised. But as for miffed or upset? In his dreams.

“I’ll see you Monday,” he said as she picked up her stuff and walked to the door.

“Yeah. Have fun tonight.”

“Thanks.”Get over yourself, Holt. She couldn’t care less who you go out with.

But damn it, he wished she did.

Now why wasshe surprised? Just because as far as she knew Trevor hadn’t had a date since she started working for him? He was a good-looking guy. Nice. Fun. She imagined he could have lots of dates if he wanted.

But damn it, she didn’twanthim to date.

Say what you mean. You don’t want him to date other women. You’re jealous.

What was wrong with her? She’d told herself she didn’t want to date him so why shouldn’t he go out with whomever he pleased? They’d never graduated from the boss–employee relationship. It didn’t look as if they ever would. Not unless she took the initiative and she wasn’t quite ready to do that.

She needed to go out with a man. Why should Trevor be the only one to date? When she got home, she called Gabe. Miraculously, he answered. Gabe was notorious for not answering his phone or checking his messages. Although he was better since he and Chantel had gotten together.

“I need a date. Can you set me up with someone?” she asked after they chatted a bit.
