I know Grace is in a relationship, and this is not exactly ethical, but Rick is an emotionally abusive asshole, and assholes don’t deserve my morals.

Sure, Grace will want to handle things with Rick like a mature adult before even thinking of starting anything with Harvey, but I’m too excited to feel bad for Rick.

Grace suddenly chokes on the water she was sipping, and Harvey immediately leans in to pat her back.

The rest of us pretend not to notice the way Grace stops breathing entirely at the touch or how Harvey inhales sharply like he got punched in the gut.

My sister flushes and whispers a small “thank you,” but Harvey still looks deeply concerned.Oh, relax, Romeo.

“Are you sure you want me to stay? I’m not—”

“Do you want to switch places and get your hands dirty, Gracie?” She makes a disgusted face, zips her lips shut, and slumps back without another word.

I glance at Harvey, and the man is ogling Grace with the most adorable puppy-eyed look I’ve seen.Oh boy.

The last time Harvey looked at something like that, it was his dad’s sword. And the tantrum he threw after being told he couldn’t have it wasbrutal.

Naturally, twelve-year-old Harvey stole the sword and hid it until his dad struck a deal that allowed him to practice combat with it for two hours a day. Supervised, of course.

When Harvey wants something, he goes after it full throttle, no brakes. Judging by how he’s tripping over his feet for Grace, I know it’s only a matter of time before my sister becomes his biggest prize yet.

I’m already on team Harvey. Rick can choke on his own dick for all I care.

Angel stands with my hand in his and turns to Grace. “Don’t leave this section unless absolutely necessary. Seiji, link me if anything looks suspicious. And you…” Angel points to Harvey, but my best friend already knows the assignment.

“I’ve got her,” Harvey grunts, sliding a little closer to Grace.

Seiji sees Rick open his mouth at the same time I do and drags him away by the arm before he can ruin the moment.

Normally, I’d be hyped to kick some ass, but this is the first time I’ll be facing my past since escaping it. Just the idea of being surrounded by the monsters I grew up with terrifies me to my core.

In the last two months, my newfound family has managed to soothe some of the damage the coven left behind, but thatdoesn’t change the fact that I still carry those wounds on my skin every day.

I know I’m safe. No matter how tonight ends, there’s no world in which Angel lets me go back to that dungeon, but Fates, I’m getting tired of being forced to confront my past over and over again.

A past that still haunts my present.

15. My mate is a Greek god

Grace

Ithink I’m about to pass out.

Lightheaded, I press my lips together, trying not to chew my bottom lip bloody. My trembling fingers won’t stop toying with the hem of my dress, and I just know I look like a nervous wreck.

I don’t think he’s doing it on purpose, but Harvey radiates this quiet confidence that’s downright intimidating. And if it’s not his presence, then I’m having a heart attack.

The way Harvey keeps shamelessly eyeing me does nothing to help my nerves. My stomach flips when I sneak a peek at him—my mate—only to find his eyes already locked on me.Oh, God.

I watch as he folds his leather jacket with more care than you’d assume from someone his size and lays it on the seat beside him. Then Harvey leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees, and patiently waits for me to speak first.

And I was about to… until he started rolling up the sleeves of his shirt, revealing the tattoos covering his arms.

What in the modern Greek god—

Red and black swirls start somewhere beneath his shirt and snake down to his knuckles, ending in a half-lotus.Absolutely drool-worthy.

I can’t stop staring at the muscles in his arms. My eyes keep tracking his every move, and I have to force myself to stop before I make ittooobvious. I don’t want him thinking I’m a freak for gawking at him like he’s the first man I’ve ever seen.
