With August snuggling to my right and Nevaeh almost climbing on me from the left, I rub her back as she slowly falls asleep while August catches me up to speed about his adventures.
Nevaeh was right. Our son is turning into a mini sass queen, just like his mama.
I can’t believe my four-year-old called me out for being rude and mean. While Nevaeh let me off easy, August, on the other hand, made me apologize in ten different ways.
Several bribes later, I'm finally forgiven. It’s a good thing I’m rich because my son has expensive taste.
We take a well-deserved nap for almost five hours when a sharp pinch in my head interrupts our little sleep fest. I groan in annoyance, thinking of having to separate from my babies.
I don’t get to bash Harvey for ruining my time with my family because he shuts the link immediately after asking me to return home.
I hate my responsibilities sometimes.
CHAPTER 41
So suddenly we are okay with warlocks?
Nevaeh
Iwatch Khatri’s wife huddle her kids to the portal with my sleeping toddler in her arms.
Uncle Elijah, the King of ell, is waiting on the other side to provide a temporary safe harbor to everyone not participating in the war.
Khatri’s youngest, Aurora, gives me a big wave with one hand while her other clutches August’s foot. Her big sister, Skye leads her family through the portal, and I stand by to make sure they cross over safely.
I don’t want to jinx it, but the fiery teenager is someone I see myself having my back and working alongside me in the future.
Skye might still be young, but she is a warrior through and through. With her looking out for my kid, I feel a little less anxious about sending August away.
“Something on your mind, Princess?” Khatri comes up beside me, leaving a frantic Angel to communicate last-minute changes to our troops.
“Just worried.”
“About the war?”
I snort very unprincess-like. “No. That I can handle in my sleep, but sending my son away? It’s tearing me up from the middle.”
“August is an alpha by blood, a royal one at that. No one would dare touch him. My wife and little one might be rouges by technicality, but their wolves have accepted your son as their alpha. And let me tell you something about wolves: they are primitive enough to sacrifice themselves if it meant protecting their alpha.”
Nodding to myself, I let his words sink in. He’s right. Between Uncle Elijah, Skye and his mate, August will be perfectly safe.
Angel didn’t ask my opinion for the first time when he ordered Amelia, Khatri’s mate, to take August with them. He absolutely refused to leave our little boy vulnerable, with none of us protecting him in the castle.
When Harvey linked Angel to come back, we quickly grabbed a few essentials and rushed back to the kingdom.
I thought coming back, crossing the portal to a place that made me feel like an intruder, would be difficult, but with Angel’s hand in mine and August sleeping on his shoulder, I was already home.
On the car ride to the Horsemen castle, Angel briefed me on how our group had been feeding coven spies false information about the Tetrad kingdom for weeks now. According to the rumors, the Horsemen are at their weakest, and it’s the best time for an unexpected attack.
While they were anticipating the attack to happen soon, it was a surprise when Harvey found a group of primary troops trying to break through our barriers. Regardless of the surprise, Angel assured me we were prepared.
More likeGracewas prepared. According to Khatri, Angel has been more or less useless since I left.Oh, how that made my heart flutter.
The entire supernatural world is holding its breath and waiting to see how this war will change the power dynamic. I know for a fact the coven is hoping to come out victorious, butthey don’t know how sick I am of her mind games and petty backstabbing strategies.
I can’t wait to close this chapter for good.
After addressing the warriors and boosting their morale, Angel rushes me to the War castle. We have yet to armor up, and if his predictions are right, there’s not much time before the coven is knocking on our door.
