Havoc made a grumbling sound but it was half-hearted. Like he was just going through the motions. “Come on.” Dragging a spindly wooden chair from the table he folded his tall frame into it before dragging me onto his lap. His arms loose around me but holding me in place. “That better?” he called cheerfully.

His grandmother straightened and her eyes were shining when she looked at us. “Not quite what I had in mind but at least she’s off her feet.” She shook her head playfully, depositing a jug and three glasses on the table before taking her own seat. “So you’re not from around here are you Darcie? How did you two meet?”

My mouth opened and no sound came out. What the hell was I meant to say to that? Stealing a panicked look at Havoc I found him smiling.

“She used to be engaged to Lucas.”

I swallowed hard. Who in their right mind would admit to their grandmother that they were sleeping with their brother’s ex-fiancée?

Oh yeah, that would be Havoc.

“Well, she definitely upgraded then.” Blue eyes met mine as she tipped her glass to her lips. “Havoc treating you better than my youngest grandson I hope?”

I nodded mutely. It didn’t sound like there was much love lost between Maggie and Lucas.

“He doesn’t come to see me, I’m too much of a reminder of where he comes from. He always hated that we are the type of people we are. His mother wasn't anything like us. snobbier.” She sounded suddenly thoughtful. “Is he still an obnoxious ass?”

The casual way she said it made me snort-laugh into my hand and the table erupted into laughter as I tried to hide it. Which only made me snort and choke more.

“So Havoc stole you away and fell in love with you huh?”

Love? I choked again and Havoc clapped me on the back.

“Grandma enough, we have only known each other a week.” He shook his head.

She waved his denial away with a wave of her wrinkled hand. “Bull, when you meet the one you know. Doesn’t matter how long you have known someone. I knew with your grandpa right away. So don’t come at me with your excuses boy.” She narrowed her eyes at him. “You wouldn’t have brought her to meet me if she wasn’t important Havoc. It’s not like you’ve brought many girls home or any.” She winked.

My mouth was suddenly dry. Was she really saying that I was the first girl he had introduced his family to?

“None?” I squeaked and behind me, I heard Havoc huff.

“You’re the first,” Maggie admitted. “And now look at him…he’s blushing.” She laughed uproariously.

Twisting my body, I stared at the big bad biker who had been my hero since he had found me alone and crying in a bar. There was a distinct pink tint to his cheeks.

“Aw.” I reached up to run my fingers through the scruff on his jaw.

“Not aw, why am I starting to think this was a bad idea? You women always stick together.” Capturing my fingers he sucked one into his mouth, his tongue swirling around. “I think I will leave you to it whilst I go and shower.”

“You do that, me and Darcie have a lot to talk about. I have so many stories to share.” His grandmother was definitely enjoying his discomfort.

It made me chuckle. “Are there pictures?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“Oh there’s pictures, you should have seen him…”

He cut her off with a growl. “Don’t you dare, woman,” he warned, standing with his arms still around my waist. He dropped his lips to my ear. “Don’t believe anything she tells you, I was a super cute kid.” His lips tugged on my ear and my lips fell open in a sigh. “You going to be ok with the madwoman for ten minutes?”

“The way you’re pawing her, I think it might be you who can’t cope being away from her for ten minutes Havoc. Let the girl alone and go and wash the road off.” She waved him away with a laugh. “Unless of course, you need to shower together, me and your gran…”

Havoc jogged away, his hand over his ears, humming loudly to cover her words.

“So?” Maggie’s eyes narrowed as she leant back in her chair. “What trouble are you in?”

The quick change in her demeanour took me by surprise. I wasn’t even sure what I could say. Or even how she knew.

“You are in trouble, right? Lucas get you pregnant and then dump you here?”

I shook my head with such force that my hair whipped at my cheeks. “No, it’s nothing like that.”
