“Here we go.” I rolled my eyes, turned on my heel and changed direction, heading towards the room where Fang was still drinking with some of my other club brothers.
“Hey.” I came to a halt, one hand thrust deep into my pocket and the other still holding on to Darcie’s, my thumb stroking small circles on her palm.
Fang’s eyes rose, the lines around them deepening as he scowled up at me. “Don’t hey me.”
By my side, Darcie tried and failed to hide her giggle. And Fang’s eyes darted to her. “Don’t you act all sweet and innocent darling, not when I still have your ass print on my desk.” He tipped his bottle in her direction, and she hid her face into my side to muffle the sound of laughter. “I don’t need to ask if you two had fun last night. I can already tell you had fun. My office?” His eyes went between the two of us. “Did you really have to prove your point by fucking in my office?” He waved his hand in the air. “Actually, you don’t need to answer that. Havoc, you are cleaning up your mess before you leave, though and once you have dropped the lovely-” He rolled his eyes like a man half his age. “-Darcie home, you are coming back so me and you can have a nice quiet word.”
By my side, Darcie stiffened. All signs of laughter dying on her face as he stared back at my president. “I’ll clean your office, Fang.” There was genuine worry in her voice, and I squeezed her fingers with mine. She was worried about me, which was sweet, but she needed to watch her tone around Fang. He might have acted like a perfect gentleman around her so far, but his temper was legendary. And he wasn’t afraid of using his teeth.
“I’ll just be bored at home anyway. “She added with an uncertain smile. “I might as well be useful.”
For a heartbeat, an uneasy silence filled the room. There wasn’t a sound as people turned their attention on us.
“Oh, you won’t be bored, lovely, the Judge wants to talk to you. Alone.” Fang’s eyes bored into mine. Waiting for me to argue back. And I wasn’t about to deny him.
“No.” My voice came out strangled. “Not alone.”
“How did I guess you were going to say that? Darcie is a big girl, Havoc. I am sure she will be able to handle Judge.” He shrugged his wide shoulders. “And anyway, he just wants to talk to her. Sort out all this mess once and for all. I can send a bodyguard with her if you want, but I don’t think it’s really necessary, do you?”
I did think it was necessary, but I kept my lips tightly shut. I didn’t know what the hell was going on, but I knew it was something. And it was probably something I wasn’t going to agree with.
“I’ll be fine, Havoc.” Darcie’s thumb brushed against the back of my hand, trying to reassure me. Or maybe she was just trying to reassure herself. “Honestly.” She didn’t sound so sure, though.
Dropping her hand, I curled it around her bicep. Pulling her away from the table and all the prying eyes that were studying us. My voice sank to a whisper.
“I don’t like this, Darcie.”
She searched my face. “Fang said he just wants to talk.”
Talk, it was never just that simple. The family that the Judge worked for never just wanted to talk. They would want something from her, and it wasn’t going to be anything good. Not that I could tell her that, though.
“Fine.” I sighed, my shoulders slumping. “But promise you won’t agree to anything without talking to me first, Darcie. I know these people; you don’t.”
“Havoc.” The tips of her fingers brushed against my jaw. I knew she thought I was being overprotective. Overreacting. But she didn’t know about this life, she was sweet and innocent, and I wanted to keep her that way.
“Havoc, you’re being silly.”
I wanted to shake her, tell her that I had a really bad feeling about all of this. “Promise me, Darcie, if I’ve found out you have agreed to something and I have to get you out of it, I will put you over my knee and spank that round ass red.”
Her eyes twinkled at my words, and I bit back a chuckle of my own. She had liked the sound of that. I made a mental note to revisit that idea later on tonight when we were alone.
“I promise.” Reaching up on tiptoes, she pressed her lips against mine. “I won’t do anything stupid.”
I wanted to believe her, but she had been doing stupid crap for years. Getting engaged to my brother was one stupid move. Being involved with me might just be another.
Chapter Seventeen
Darcie
Cyber took me back to Havoc’s small house, looking worse for wear and grunting in answer to my questions.
But I would have taken his hungover ass to what met me when I slipped inside.
The Judge was sat at the kitchen table, his hands wrapped around a mug of coffee. He was staring into its depths like he could see the meaning of the world in the steaming liquid.
“Morning.” Forcing myself to be cheery, I swept into the room. Heading towards the coffee pot, which was already empty, I busied myself refilling it. And it was only when it started dripping that I turned to him.
He was staring at me intently, the mug in his hands forgotten. “You look like you had an interesting night Darcie.” His keen eyes trailed down my bare legs. And then finally he met my eyes.
