“For you, my love?” I said. “Anything you desire.”
Xavier pressed his cheek against my chest, nuzzling me. After a moment passed, he leaned up and retrieved his carton of food.
“Dinner on Friday, still?” he asked.
“I’ll call Grandpa and confirm,” I said. “He’s excited to see your place.”
Xavier nodded and plucked some noodles from his carton with his chopsticks. The phone rang on the desk, and I reached across, hitting a button to silence it.
There would always be more work, but finally, I had something more exciting to do with my time.
I had a life to build.
