I giggled. “So, what, was he supposed to step aside and let you holler?”

He chuckled. “Hell yeah.”

“Yeah, okay.” I sniffed.

He sat and stared at me.

“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

He shrugged. “This shit is crazy.”

“What's crazy?”

He shook his head. “A nigga know your little ass it too young.”

I couldn't argue with that. “So, what's up, Khalil? Is there something on your mind?”

He smiled. “Man, you act like a little woman. Have you ever been a little girl?”

I nodded. “In some other life time.”

“Yeah?” he checked his cell phone.

“Hey Khalil.” two girls waved, as they gave him lustful glances. “Where Jahrein at, Raven?” they giggled, as they strolled towards the basketball court.

I rolled my eyes, knowing that they were trying to be funny.

Khalil had another hearty laugh.

I playfully shoved him. “What's so damn funny?”

“This situation.” he dropped the smile. “You a bad little broad, and I can’t deny that. I see all these niggas waggin' their tongues when you walk by. Aint too many around here like you. And that nigga Jahrein know that too. That’s why he got you like this. He a little older,so he know the game. That nigga aintthatcareless. You remember that. He was fucking long before you came along, but every time he touches you your belly get swollen. Ask yourself if that’s a coincidence. Plus, I heard that you’re smart, too. He’s making sure that you can’t do shit other than sit around and wait for him. It’s so much more to life than to bear that nigga’s kids. On the cool, little mama, if you can, break yourself away from that nigga.”

I sat and listened to him. It was like he could see right through me.

I shook my head. “Sometimes I just wanna say fuck everything, you know?”

Khalil actually sat and listened, as I spilled my heart out to him. He gave positive feedback. After a few hours it was beginning to get dark. Red had my baby and I was in no hurry to go home. So, we went riding around. We ended up at this little Mexican restaurant. I ordered some beef enchiladas with extra cheese, and he had tacos.

I was relaxed with him by then. So, when he asked me if I wanted to hang a little longer I agreed. He couldn’t take me home, because that’s where his woman was. I didn’t know who she was and really didn’t give a damn. He took me to a motel off of Scott. I had never been to one before, and was kind of nervous. He told me that I didn’t have to do anything that I didn’t want to. Still, I knew what was about to happen.

“You know I’ve been cutting for you for a while?” he asked as we stepped into the room.

“No, I didn’t know that.”

“Yeah, I have. I like watching you from a distance. You aint like most of these girls running round here. I like that.”

I nodded.

“You be running around with Shell’s nasty ass, but you don’t let her influence you. It seems like you got a mind of your own.”

“I do.”

He laughed. “Are you always like this?”

I lifted a brow. “Like what?”

“So reserved, like you got it all under control.”
