Wrinkling his nose, he pulled her closer. “Why do I find you so amusing?”
“My fierce Andarion genes. They call out to everyone.”
“Nah. Think it’s more your fiercely attractive ass.”
She hit him with a pillow. “You’re awful.”
“Telling you that you have a positively edible rear is offensive? Sorry. I thought women liked that.”
She leaned over him and kissed his nose. “Sometimes we do.”
Hadrian tucked her hair behind her ear.
Just as he was about to speak again, he heard the sound of the door opening.
Oh shit, Jayne mouthed.
Hadrian quickly slid out of bed. Using his powers, he put his clothes on and dressed Jayne.
“Nice,” she whispered.
Grinning, he quickly put the bed back in order.
“Hey! Where are you guys?”
Jayne cringed at Hauk’s question. “Uh–”
“We were resting.” Hadrian opened the door and stepped out into the hallway. “We didn’t know how long you’d be gone, so I went to lie down, and Jayne came to check on me.”
She followed him back to the living room where she saw the suspicion on both their faces. Hoping that she wasn’t blushing, she slid past Hadrian. “Did you find out anything?”
“As a matter of fact, I did.” Stepping aside, she opened the door. “But it wasn’t what we were expecting to find.”
Hadrian cursed at the tall, arrogant prick who strode in to glare at him. “You’re such an asshole.”
Nero tsked. “The correct words are, ‘Thank you for saving my life again, brother.’”
“Kiss my ass, Nero.”
Jayne gaped at that disclosure, even though she probably should have known. But to be fair, they didn’t really favor.
Nero’s hair was lighter, and his eyes were much paler and more gray than blue. He was also significantly shorter than Hadrian.
And in her opinion, not quite as handsome.
She was so focused on him, that she missed seeing the corner of a chair and fell forward.
Hadrian caught her up against him. “Careful.”
Nero sneered. “Put that down! You don’t know where she’s been.”
“Don’t know where you’ve been either, but you expect me to take you in whenever you turn up. And you’re not nearly as cute.”
“Not nearly as likely to cut your throat, either. Have you forgotten that?”
“I never forget that, Nero. How could I?”
Jayne wanted to be offended by their bantering, but she just felt bad for Hadrian.
