“Yes.”
“At the location I’m thinking of?”
His mind-reading skills still needed some work, but she was nodding towards his house, so that meant cancelling the reservations for the steak house in Palm Springs. So far, her favorite dates were going to the grocery store and then cooking together before curling up on the couch to watch a movie. Elinor was maddeningly hard to spoil, except with words.
“Agent E, has anyone ever told you how attractive you are?”
“Other Agent E, that is highly improper. We work together.” She snapped her phone shut and came closer, but before Edward could do anything improper, highly or otherwise, a car pulled up to the curb.
Brandon got out and gave them a quick head nod before walking up the porch like a man on a mission. Ignoring them probably had something to do with the terrified look on his face.
“Is he here for Marianne?” Edward whispered.
“Yeah.”
Marianne came out the second Brandon knocked and stood there, looking equally nervous. “Thanks for driving me.”
“No problem.”
And then they stared at each other, like they couldn’t decide whether to launch themselves into each other’s arms or run in the other direction. Edward knew the feeling.
“I’m going to get back up on the ladder now.” He gave Elinor a quick kiss. “You can fill me in on what’s going on with those two later.”
Elinor whistled as he climbed. “I’ll just be down here enjoying the view, sweetheart.”
He laughed. Every new day with Elinor was a delightful discovery of why life would always be better with her in it.
