"I may or may not come home, depending on how it goes." He wiggled his eyebrows. "Don't wait up for me."
"Wait, where should we order food from?" Domino asked.
"Oh, right. Call Dorsia, it used to be this upscale restaurant, but they sold it to a pizza place. The food is fucking mint." He pinched his fingers together. "Get the cinnamon sticks."
We ordered a cheese pizza and the sticks after he left and then settled on the couch for a movie while we waited. Despite itbeing June, we found a channel running a Scream marathon. We caught it right in the middle ofScream 2.
"They should have just stopped at one," I commented.
"Really?" Domino looked up from my lap, where her head had been resting. "You don't like the sequel?"
"I don't like them in general. Who cares about what the chick is up to afterward?"
She gasped dramatically. "I care. I think it's cool that we see more of the characters. It fleshes out the story more."
"Maybe," I relented. "When Swayze gets here, we can let him be the decider."
She bolted up. "Swayze is coming?"
I observed her expression. Her eyes were wide, but I wasn't sure if she was happy or upset.
"Is that a problem? I thought we'd all feel better if we were together."
"Of course, it's just... where is he going to sleep?"
Rule 31 - Domino
It’s okay to fuck the final girl if your best friend is there too.
The doorbell rang before I could ask when Swayze would be here. I went to the door. I peered out and then ripped the door open, tossing myself at Swayze.
"Woah, hold on." He lifted his arms over his head as my arms encircled his waist. "Your delivery guy handed me this."
I let him go and stepped back, only then realizing he had pizza boxes. I let him inside and took the boxes from him, bringing them into the kitchen. Koi followed us in.
"I'm so glad you're here!" I exclaimed. What I meant was alive. I was so glad that he was alive. After last night, I wasn't sure who was safe and who wasn't.
Swayze smiled wide but then looked down at his black boots. "I would have come sooner, but after... everything, I took a shower and then went to sleep for a few hours. I'm still sore." He stretched his shoulders and grimaced.
"What exactly happened after we left?" Koi asked. "We saw the news. They told the police she died while riding the Cyclone?"
Swayze's jaw locked and his fists tightened at his sides.
"I'd rather not talk about it. What we did was so fucked up, I never want to think about it again."
Awkward silence engulfed us, so I said, "Are you hungry?" I opened the pizza and pulled out a steaming slice. "Come get a slice of pizza."
Swayze stepped forward first, scooping up a piece, and Koi followed after. "How long before we all have to go back?"
"Three days," Koi answered. "Fabian texted me a bit ago. Johnny said we can hang out here. You down?" he asked Swayze.
"Yeah, most of the camp left right along with me. Everyone seems to know that what the Risky kids are telling everyone isn't quite adding up. They offered us paid time off. A few days away sounds great."
"We were doing a Scream marathon, if you want to join us." I perked up. I turned to the fridge and opened it, finding racks of root beer soda and a few bottles of vodka in the door and little else. Johnny had someone else feeding him most days, whether that was by takeout or his date for the evening. I grabbed a two-liter and a bottle of vodka and turned back to them. "I could go for a drink."
I wasn't of legal drinking age but being a runaway at twelve made me experience some things much earlier than most, alcohol being one of them. I wasn't dependent on it, but I knew the effects it had on my brain and body, and tonight, I needed to relax and enjoy my newfound company. Everyone took a glass and we filled them high with vodka and root beer and took the pizza to the living room to continue the movie.
Koi sat on one side of the couch, and Swayze took the other. I hesitated as they both stared up at me expectantly. A flashback to the darkness of the shower we'd shared less than twenty-hours hours ago ran through my mind, causing my cheeks to flame. I sat between them and smoothed my dress out over my thighs. I was suddenly thankful we'd had time to pack clothes. Johnny had let both Koi and I shower today, and after last night, my hair was stiff and I smelled like sweat.
