“You warm enough?” I asked, because while the sun was warm, there was a slight breeze too. “Blanket?”
“Blanket sounds nice, although after all that food, I may fall asleep.”
I pulled it over us and moved closer to her, pushing her hair back from her face and letting my fingers skim down her neck and over her shoulder, noticing how her breath hitched. “I can think of something else we could do.”
“Jax,” she whispered.
“We could finish the conversation we were having yesterday. You know, before Conner interrupted us.”
“We weren’t having a conversation. We were about to cross a line.”
“Were we?”
She wriggled back, putting a little space between us; space I didn’t like.
“You don’t want me?”
She looked so conflicted. “I didn’t say that, but it’s not right.”
My hand cupped her cheek and her eyes closed as she let out a sigh. “Says who?” I asked.
“I’m forty-nine. You’re thirty-one.”
“Age is just a number. I like being around you. I have fun with you. You’re hot as fuck.” She tutted. “And if Conner hadn’t walked in, I would have told you that yesterday before I kissed you and rubbed your clit until you came.”
Her eyes flared, and she scrambled to sit, focusing on the glistening sea in front of us instead of looking at me. I sat up too, wondering if I should have kept my mouth closed. “What are youthinking?” I asked, making sure to keep my distance as I got the impression she was about to put an end to our day together.
“That we should go home.” She turned to look at me, tears welling in her eyes.
“Would it make you feel any better to know I knew you were going to say that?”
“No,” she mumbled. “You seem to read me pretty well, so it’s no surprise.”
“Why do you want to go? Are you not having fun with me?”
She leaned her head on my shoulder and my heart doubled in size at the intimacy of the moment.
“I’m having the best time with you. That’s the problem. I enjoy your company far too much and it makes me want things I can’t have.”
“What is it you want, Helen?” The tension between us made the air feel like a storm was brewing. Heavy, thick, full of the promise of something unseen.
She twisted her body toward mine, pushing her fingers through my hair in a touch that was so unexpected I had to fist my hands at my side so I didn’t throw myself at her and demand she stay with me forever.
“Helen,” I whispered as I leaned in closer.
“I want you, Jax.”
Chapter 11
Helen
I couldn’t have stopped the words, even if I’d wanted to. And honestly, I didn’t want to. Jax had got under my skin from that first night in my house. It had built and intensified until it felt so big that I couldn’t contain it and that’s why, when he leaned in to kiss me I didn’t think about why we shouldn’t do this. All I thought about was how much I wanted his lips against mine.
“Just so we’re clear, I’m going to kiss you,” he murmured.
“I’m going to kiss you back,” I replied with a smile.
As soon as our mouths connected, I knew I was screwed as pure pleasure poured through me, lighting up parts of me I didn’t even know existed.
