“Well, no. Like I said, Kai probably needs time. We stay friends, we support her, then see where it takes us,” Steven offered.

“Maybe.” I stroked his damp hair, unconvinced. “Do you want someone else?” My heart twisted.

“I don’t mind waiting for Kai.” He looked over at me.

“I don’t want anyone else. Kai means more to me than anyone. I’ve literally never felt this way before, not even with you. I can’t explain it.” My voice broke.

Steven curled into me. “You don’t need to explain. She’s into us. We just have to be understanding.”

If only I had that optimism. And patience.

“Okay,” I replied. Because I literally didn’t know what else to do.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Kai

Tuesday

My phone rang and I made a face. Though it was time to get up for class. I didn’t know what the number was. It was probably Logan’s mom calling to yell at me more, because her poor baby's car had been stolen.

Yesterday it had been ridiculous that he’d done that.Entitled much?

The call stopped and the number rang again.

“Hello?” I answered.

“Hi, this is Drea’s dad again,” a male voice said.

“Hi?” Oh? I’d been a little surprised that Logan hadn’t said anything about Drea, other than that I needed to apologize. He gotback, did she?

“I wanted to let you know that we did get things sorted and brought Drea back from Bali, but she won’t be returning to your school. Obviously, she’s not ready to go to college away from home yet,” he said.

I sucked in a breath. “Logan left her in Bali, didn’t he?”

“Yes.”

Wow, what an asshole.

“The reason I’m calling is because Drea has something to say to you–don’t you?” His voice went sharp as the phone changed hands.

“I’m sorry that your feelings got hurt and that your friends and boyfriend like me more than you,” she muttered.

“That's not an apology,” her father snapped in the background.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. Logan came to me willingly. Your so-called friends were happy to leave you behind. Did you expect me to turn down a free trip? Even Logan stealing from you was his idea,” she gloated.

This was amusing, because she absolutely didn’t think she was in the wrong. Though I had to admire the fact that her father was trying to get her to apologize.

“Drea, I saidapologize.I taught you better than this,” he added.

“You’re not going to let me go back even if I do apologize, so what’s the point? Besides Logan’s going to come for me he loves me,” she added.

“He’s coming for you? Drea, Logan left you with passport issues and no return ticket in a foreign country. Also, after graduation, he’s going back to the East Coast and getting back with his ex,” I replied.

“What are you talking about? He’s absolutely staying on the island for his doctorate so that he can continue to be with me,” Drea whined.

I almost felt sorry for her. Almost.
