“Wait.” The guard frowned. “Yeah, this guy, Carl, he came in earlier. He’d been to events before and wasn’t banned, so I let him in.”
“Thanks.” My guess would be this was the pack member that they hadn’t found yet.
“He wasn’t alone. This guy was with him.” The guy showed me the record.
“Thank you. Where’s the mixer? The social hall?” I asked. Evan was in the lounge of one of the dorms. Still, that was a great way to gain access to campus–and a good way to get someone out.
“Yep.” He nodded.
We drove off. “We need to let Detective Esposito know.”
Cam, a blonde beta officer, whose hair was always up in an impossibly neat bun, nodded. “Already did.”
There werelotsof cars on campus and nicely dressed people milling about everywhere.
We parked by the dorms, and I called Evan. No answer. Panic shot through our bond. I texted the group chat.
Me
Evan might be in danger. Finchley dorms.
“Let’s go.” I got my gun out, and I led her toward the dorms, glad I was pretty familiar with the campus.I’m coming, Evan.
Security stopped us at the dorms. I flashed my badge. “I think people are in danger.”
“Shit. The headmistress is in there. She was bringing someone to meet a student. Normally it’s not allowed, but she’s the headmistress… Fuck.” He pressed a button which hopefully set off a silent alarm. “They were going to the lounge.”
I looked at the little map of the dorm and identified the lounge.
“She was asking for Rose? Was she with him?” I flashed a picture of Carl.
“Yes and I think so. I’ll come with you,” he said.
“He wasn’t alone. Let’s be on the lookout for him.” Cam showed him a picture of the other guy.
“Okay. I’ve already summoned more security,” he replied.
“Thanks. Backup should be coming.” The fact that someone had already got into a place where they shouldn’t, didn’t give me confidence in him, though his logic made sense.
A scream echoed down the hall. We took off running. Please let Evan be okay.
“I will fucking kill her. This is how it’s gonna go. I’m going to take Rose and leave. Headmistress Nikita signs the paperwork that Rose has been matched with us. No one fights it. And you, Mr. Advocate, will allow all of it and note that she doesn’t need no advocate no more.” Carl, who was a big, ugly alpha, had a gun pressed to Headmistress Nikita’s temple in the doorway of the lounge.
“She’s sixteen, you can’t do that.” Evan had Rose behind him. The entire room stank of burnt sugar omega fear as other omegas hid and cowered.
Some alphas got off on that. Clearly, Carl was one of them.
“We have a judge. We have lots of people. That’s how we offed your uncle, Rose, and if you’re not careful, your mama’s next.” Carl sneered at Rose.
“Police, drop your gun,” Cam yelled.
Carl turned and fired at her, missing. Evan grabbed the headmistress. Cam shot Carl, and he crumpled to the ground.
“I said drop your gun. Fucking asshole. You give alphas a bad name.” She kicked his gun away.
“Police,” someone yelled as a bunch of officers joined us.
Hopefully, one of them was Detective Esposito.
