Hale started laughing. “Yeah, you didn’t grow up with us. That would be an acceptable major.”

“What did they want you to be?” Chance asked.

“A teacher. Teachers are great, I just didn’t want to be one,” I said as we drove through the gates of the country club.

“This is where the party is? What is this place?” Chance asked.

“Spencer’s golf and tennis club. Hale, why aren’t you allowed around bouncy castles?” I asked as we turned into the parking lot.

“What? I am so allowed around bouncy castles. Ugh, you fillonebouncy castle with helium borrowed from the university chem lab.” Hale made an exasperated face.

Yep. This was my brother, the chemistry major.

We parked. Eunice, the fancy wedding planner, waited for me, looking stressed.

“There you are,” she said as I got my dress and things out of the trunk.

“Sorry, we’re running behind.” I saw Wes drive up in Spencer’s car, followed by the motorcycles.

“It’s your party. They can wait foryou.Everything is in place. People are already arriving, but don’t worry, we’re sending everyone to the gardens for the reception. We’ve got the string quartet playing, and the canapes and drinks are being passed. It’s okay.” She eyed my three littlest siblings getting out of the car.

“Show me where I can get ready? I need five minutes alone. We have two rooms, right?” I asked.

“We do.” She smiled. “Let me show you where to go.”

“Grace?” Evan’s voice came through the door as there was a soft knock.

“You can come in.” I sat on the chaise in the pretty little room that Eunice showed me to. Mostly dressed, I was just taking a moment to drink my champagne and compose myself.

Okay, and eat a bunch of the beautiful pastel macarons off the ornate tiered tray. I’d never mastered baking macarons.

Evan slipped in. “You look beautiful.”

“Hi. I just needed a moment.” I stuffed another macaron in my mouth.

He shut the door and sat with me on the lounger. “Take all the moments you need.”

“Did you need to put anything in here?” I rested my head on his shoulder.

“No. Everyone and everything is in the other room eating all the snacks. Oh, you have nicer snacks. May I?” Evan eyed the macarons.

I handed him the tray. “Try one, they're so good.”

“Mmmm. Delicious.” He sighed happily, eating one of the pastel cookies.

“Try this.” I handed him the bottle of champagne.

Evan chuckled and took a swig directly from the bottle. “We’re so classy.”

“Yep. Especially with the back of my dress undone and no shoes.” I took another cookie. “I’m probably getting crumbs all over it.”

“Doesn’t matter. Spencer will still adore you.” Evan snagged a kiss, which tasted of macaron.

“Is Spence okay? Thanks for handling everything with Nick earlier.” I put my head back on his shoulder.

“I’m happy that I was there to help. Um, I told Uncle Nick everything. He remembers his research and the omegas. They didn’t take that away.” Frowning, he took another sip.

“Huh.” I hadn’t expected that.
