I put down the strawberry I was about to dip into chocolate sauce. It was a nice hot day, and instead of going to work, I opted to spend the day with my woman.I’d gotten Louis to pack us a nice lunch, and rather than go out to the park, we were in the garden.
My men were patrolling my estate.Maeve was not aware, but a man had attempted to scale my walls last night. We caught him, and he was currently on his way to hell.Mikhail had sent him.
The Bratva were not getting the message, but I would deal with them shortly.I was done playing games, and now that they had attempted to enter my property, it guaranteed certain death.I was not going to spoil my day with Maeve.
“Do I even want to know about my other brothers?”Maeve asked.
She had three brothers. The youngest was now dead.
“One is an addict and liked to drug women and rape them.”This caused Maeve to gasp.“He’s dead.He died just over a week ago from some bad drugs.”
Maeve’s hand went to her mouth.“Wow,” she said.
“Do you need a minute?”I asked.
“No.Does that make me a bad person?I don’t even feel like I should cry, and yet he’s my brother.”She frowned and then turned to him.“He raped people?”
“He’s not the only one.Your eldest brother, Daniel, yeah, he goes down a similar path.Only, he likes to keep them as pets for a length of time.Force them to do his bidding, and when he’s done, he kills them.”
There had been a couple of missing girls that could be traced back to her oldest brother.I had the evidence for all of it, and it would be so easy to hand it over to the police. However, the Taylor family were not going to have the luxury of building up connections in prison. They were not going to live to Thanksgiving.
“You’re sure you have the right people doing all of this?”
“I’m sure.”
I see the horror in her eyes.
“What does my other brother do?”she asked.
I looked at her, waited, and then I spoke.“He likes kids,” I said.
This made her pull away, and I watched as she got to her feet and shook her head.“No, you’re wrong. You must be wrong. There is no way that is even possible.”
I stayed on the picnic blanket I had set out, and I watched her.
“That is sick and twisted and gross. There is no way that is even possible.I mean, is it?”she asked.
There’s no point in me saying a word. When I made the decision to kill her family, I had investigated each of them. Her family were monsters. Her siblings more so than her parents, which was a shock. In my experience, the parents tended to be the worst ones.I guess there was always room for surprises.I didn’t know how her siblings had become this way.All I could guess is they assumed with Maeve’s life, they could do whatever the hell they wanted and damn the consequences.
Maeve stopped and I watched her hands close and then open.I can’t leave her like this. I get to my feet, close the distance between us, and put my hands on her shoulders.Part of me expected her to push me away, but instead she sunk against me.
“I have no idea what I’m doing,” she said.“I wanted to be ...part of them.I wanted them to love me and accept me, and then I hear this and it makes me feel so sick.”
“I know.”I kissed her cheeks and wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her back against me.
“How can they do that kind of stuff?”she asked.
“There are a lot of sick people in the world,” I said.
“I don’t even care that he’s dead,” Maeve said. She shook her head.
“It’s okay.”
“No, because that makes me a horrible person.”
“Are you happy about it?”he asked.
“No, hearing it doesn’t make me want to jump for joy.I’m sad, but I’m not at the same time.”She sighed.“I’m sorry.I can’t believe what I have just learned. It’s crazy.”
