“Is everything okay back there?” he asked, looking over at me.

I sighed and looked back over my shoulder. They hadn’t come out yet. “I fucking hope so.”

“So,what’s the plan tonight? Are we living the rockstar life? Hitting a club? Going to a bar?”

“Yes, definitely,” I said, stretching out in the front seat of Dreamboat’s Tahoe. There must be some requirement about bodyguards driving this kind of vehicle. “We’re going to go wild and make a surprise appearance atSafeway. Can you handle that?”

Dreamboat chuckled. He always seemed to have a smile on his face, no matter what. “Sure. I’m good with the grocery store. This what you and Phantom do for fun? I figured you’d use a delivery service.”

The thought of He-Man in my kitchen made me smile.

“I would, but we don’t order anything unless Michael’s there for deliveries. I just need to get a few things before he gets home. I think we’re out of the waffles he loves and that ghoulish cheese he eats.”

Dreamboat laughed. “Really? I think you might mean gouda, not ghoulish.”

I shrugged. “It smells ghoulish to me. But what do I know? He’s been trying to teach me how to cook, so I gotta get some things. Kinda want to surprise him.”

Dreamboat belly laughed, and I blushed. Had I just told him I wanted to cook for He-Man? I was so fucked.

“What am I missing? Why is that funny?”

He raised a hand to wave at the gate attendant as we passed. “Nothing. It’s just so Phantom. I knew he convinced you to work out, but cooking, too? I think it’s kinda great. You guys are pretty convincing, selling that boyfriend thing.”

Should I tell him we were more to each other than friends, or should I let He-Man be the one to tell them? I opted to keep my mouth shut about us.

“If it were up to me, we’d eat out every night. But he refuses to do that, so I’ve been learning some things while he cooks. And it’s damn good. It’s like having a personal chef, except he makes me do the dishes.”

Okay, he didn’tmakeme do them; I volunteered to stand close to him in the kitchen and listen to the rumble of his low, sultry voice ramp up my desire as he quietly told me what to do.

But Dreamboat didn’t need to know that.

“Well, if that’s your thing, you do you, boo.”

I laughed and thought about what he might be doing. Made me wonder if my babysitter knew.

“Hey, do you know what he’s working on in California?”

He didn’t look at me, but kept his eyes on the road. “He didn’t tell you?”

“He was in a hurry. Just said it was something he had to go do because you and Daredevil would never be able to find what he was looking for.”

He grinned at my lie, just like I’d been expecting. “Really? Sounds like something he’d say.”

I waited, but he didn’t give in.

“Don’t worry about him. It’s not dangerous. Just some intel we need.”

He pulled into the Safeway parking lot and chose a parking space away from the others. Dreamboat glanced around quickly before he went to open the door. “Wait for…”

“I know,” I replied, rolling my eyes. “Wait for you.”

He grinned and got out. “Phantom’s got you trained,” he said before closing the door.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes as thoughts of my sexy He-Man made me smile.

I watched as Dreamboat nonchalantly scoped out the surrounding area, then opened the door for me. When we reached the enclosed entrance, he grabbed a shopping cart and followed me through the store.
