When was the last time a guy was interested?
She might just have to deal with a Halloween chainsaw if it meant she could get laid.
Wait.
“Are you guys trying to get me laid?” she asked, unfortunately loud given the pause of the jukebox.
Everyone in the room seemed to look in her direction.
Her cheeks heated and she shrank in the booth. “Are you?”
“No, we didn’t put you on Let’s Hook Up.” Rachel sucked at her straw. “Thatwasa discussion, though. Guess which team Kitty was on?”
“I think you’re doing pretty well handling the let’s-get-you-laid part yourself.” Kitty said. When had she returned? Her eyes twinkled as she glanced around the bar. “Because every eligible man here is checking out you and your ta-tas.”
“I think some of them aren’t eligible, too,” Simone whispered. And, for the record, that did not help the nerves brewing in April’s stomach. She took a heady gulp of her vodka tonic. Maybe she should skip the tonic? Really let loose.
She decided against it. Because, kids.
“Okay, this guy.” Kitty held up the phone and, oh…
If Jack was out of April’s league with his handsome blond good looks, then this guy may as well have been from Mars. Because, seriously, he looked just like that guy who played that guy in the car movies with one of the Chris-Hollywood guys.
“What would I do with all those muscles?” April asked, sort of entranced by the mountains and valleys of this man’s sinew.
“You would lick them,” Sadie said over the edge of her glass. “And you would enjoy it. And so would he.”
“Says the woman whose husband is built like a tank.”
“I’m just sayin’.” Sadie held up her hand. “Muscles on men are a definite benefit.”
“I can get on board with a good dad bod, too,” Rachel said. “Sometimes.”
“Travis doesn’t have a dad bod.” Yelena pointed out.
“But if he did, I’d be on board with it.” Rachel reached for the fried pickles as they arrived at the table. April poked at the salad, which was pretty good given that they were in a dive bar.
“Don’t you worry that this guy is not who he says he is?” April asked. “I mean, why would a guy who looks like that be interested in somebody like me?”
“Shit.” Simone shook her head. “We’re going to have to do this here.”
“Do what?” April forked a bite of salad.
“Tell you all the reasons we love you and you are perfection and you deserve all the happiness in the world,” Simone said in one breath.
“And if that happiness comes from a guy with muscles for his muscles, then that’s just how it’s going to be.” Rachel held April’s gaze and nodded until April nodded, too.
“And if the guy has a dad bod—and you love him and he treats you awesome—then that’s how it’ll be,” Yelena said. “Because you can lick a dad bod, too.”
“But, in the meantime, totally lick this guy’s arms.” Kitty held up the screen showing muscle guy. “Actually…”
The moment Kitty got an idea was written across her face plain as day. She scooted out of the booth, April’s phone still in her grip. She was tapping something on the screen while she chewed on her lower lip.
“What are you doing?” Simone asked, sliding out of the booth to peer over the screen. “Oh.”
“Whatisshe doing?” April asked, more than a little concerned about what was happening on the cell screen.
“She’s talking to Mr. Muscles,” Simone whispered.
