“But?” Logan asked, lookingat me cautiously.
“I don’t want to intrude onyour family stuff,” I said, picking at imaginary fluff on my jeans. “Thatwouldn’t be fair.”
“Saves me going alone.”Logan shrugged. “You’d be doing me a favor, actually, since my original datewent and found the love of his life after I asked him.”
“Him?” I raised an eyebrow.
Logan stillthoughthe was straight, right? I couldn’t have misread him that much, could I?
“Gray, my best friend. Oneof my best friends. He runs the company. And now he’s got a nice boyfriend totake with him, and he was always going to be invited in his own right, so…”
“Okay,” I said, nodding asthat information washed over me. Logan didn’t mind being seen with a man, he’dplannedon it. Even ifmost of the people there knew they were friends…
That was information worthremembering, at least. Maybe he didn’t need all that much of a nudge, after all.
“Yeah, umm. I’d love to comewith you. I’d feel safer that way.”
“Good, because option twowas begging Zoe to cover for me and I didnotwant to do that.Plus, uh. Figured you’d be more comfortable sticking with me? Since you alreadyknow me now.”
“I’m sure Zoe’s charming,” Isaid. She must have been someone Logan worked with, and I was sure he wouldn’teven have considered it if he thought for a second that we wouldn’t get along. “ButI’d prefer you.”
Logan’s smile made hiseyes light up.
My phone vibrated in my lap.
Gabe:The angelwould tell you that jumping on the hot bodyguard’s dick would be as much agift to him as it is to you. You’re hot. Own it.
I held the phone against mystomach so Logan couldn’t see the screen. This was anicemoment. I didn’t want to ruinit.
“Something wrong?” Loganasked, all concern and kindness.
Dammit.
Jumping on his dickwouldhave been a gift for both of us. He made me feel so comfortable and cared forthat it seemed like the least I could do for him was a good orgasm or two.
“Still just Gabe,” I said. “Honestly. If it was something serious, I’d tell you.”
“Good,” Logan sat back, spreading his arms along the back of the bench again.
I shuffled just a tiny bitcloser, letting myself bask in his warmth. Even in the summer heat—which wasnever all that bad in San Francisco, anyway—I wanted to be closer to him.
Which was probably a badsign.
“I’m here to protect you,”Logan said. “That’s from anyone, not just whoever this asshole stalking you is.”
“Yeah?” I asked. Most of thetime, I could take care ofmyself, but… having someone around to pickup the slack when it was more than I could handle sounded so good.
“Yep.” Logan crossed hisankles, tucking his feet under the bench, and closed his eyes for a moment.
He would have objected to meclimbing into his lap in a public park, I thought.
That was the only reason Ididn’tdoit.
“Thank you,” I said, lettingthe warmth of being taken care of wash over me.
This was the first moment I’d had in tenmonths that made me feel truly, completely safe. I owed Logan so much for that.
“Can we sit here a whilelonger?”
