He’dkissed metoday because hecouldn’tthink of anything better to do, which felt like his subconsciouswantingto. He’d had otheroptions.

The one that’d popped intohis head waskiss Ashley, and he’d gone through with it, and now I wassquirming with a low simmer of arousal on a park bench while he licked hisfingers.

And hehadn’tsaid no when Iwas kissing him. Hadn’t moved to push me off.

If Mrs. Seif hadn’t interrupted us…

Well, things would haveeither been a whole lot more awkward or a whole lot sexier.

“Gabe was just checking in,”I said, flipping my phone over on my lap so that if he sent something back,Logan wouldn’t catch a glimpse of it.

“He seems like a good friend,”Logan said, so painfully sincere that I almost wanted to tell him that Gabe wascurrently encouraging me to jump on him.

Everyone liked Gabe, and forgood reason. He was sweet, and kind, and he always had a smile and a loving paton the back to offer anyone who needed it.

He also had a filthy mindand the sex drive of a bunny rabbit.

Not that I could talk, there. Given the opportunity, I wasn’t so different.

I just hadn’t found anyone Icould take it out on yet.

With dappled afternoonsunlight making him look outright stunning, his lips stained a reddish purpleand his face open and relaxed, Logan was my current favorite candidate.

“He is,” I said a moment toolate. “The best of friends.”

I didn’t want to turnthis into another woe-is-me session. I was leaving. Not only for my own safety, but for the safety of the people I loved.

Mostlyfor the safetyof the people I loved.

Protecting my friends wasthe best thing I could do. They deserved that from me. After everything they’d done to takecare of me when I needed it most, it was time to repay the favor.

I just wished it didn’t involveleaving them behind.

“I, uh…” Logan scratched theback of his neck. I was learning that he did that when he was nervous. “Thingis… this is awkward, but my sister’s wedding is on Saturday.”

“Oh.”

I couldn’t keep Loganfrom something like that, but I was meant to be leaving Sunday. I’d hoped he’dbe the one to take me home, but…

“I’ve been thinking abouthow to handle it, and, I mean, we can do something else if you’re notcomfortable, but I figure the easiest way is for you to come with me? If youdon’t mind going to a wedding full of strangers.”

What?

“Come with you…”

“As my date,” Logan said. “Ishould probably say guest, that’d be more professional, wouldn’t it?”

“Date’s fine,” I said,breathless, stunned that he’d even think of that. “I…”

Kissing me in the heat ofthe moment was one thing, but inviting me to a wedding was much bigger thanthat.

He looked so shy and hopefulthat the urge to kiss him welled up all over again, my tongue darting out tolick my own lips and my brain reminding me that he’d still taste amazing rightnow, the berry stain making his lips look bright and full and soft.

Not being able to pounce onhim was so unfair.

“I know it’s short noticebut it’s not a really formal event or anything. My sister gave me a tie andtold me to wear a nice suit. Plus it’ll befullof bodyguards,so there’snowhere you’d be safer.”

“I’d love to. But…”
