“What if you just hold mewhen I’m okay as well?” I asked, shuffling closer.

“Anytime,” Fox promised,squeezing my waist.

That sounded like anopportunity too good to miss. I leaned forward until my head rested against hisshoulder and his hands slipped up under my t-shirt and splayed over my back.Fox tilted his head, settling it on top of mine, and let out a soft, happy sigh.

I didn’t ever want tomove. This was the position I wanted to stay in for the rest of my life.

“Thank you for this,” Isaid. It wasnice, up here with Fox, alone except for a few birdscalling and the insects providing a background chorus.

I’d never felt so…still.

There was nowhere else inthe world I wanted to be, no sense of urgency spurring me to fidget or panic. And that was all thanks to Fox.

“Cuddling you?” Fox asked. “Noneed to thank me for that. I’m enjoying it.”

The paper bag he’d grabbedearlier rustled. “But I also think it’s about time I fed you,” he said. “Andthisisa picnic.”

My stomach rumbled as if it’d heard him.

“I have an excitingselection,” he continued. “Of pastries, baked goods, crisps—sorry, potato chips—and chocolate.”

“Youaretrying to fattenme up,”I said, though this time there was no faint edge of panic to the thought. Thiswas okay.

As long as Fox was here, everything was okay.

“Not exactly.” Fox continuedunpacking the bag. “I just want to see you happy. You only live once, you know,”he said, as I sat back, eager to know what he’d packed for us.

He passed me what lookedlike another chocolate croissant, and I grinned.

“Figured we’d start withsomething foolproof,” he said.

“You know how to spoil aman.”

“I want to give youeverything,” Fox said. “And the moon and the stars,” he added, looking up.

I looked up as well andrealized that this was why we were out here.

Fox reallywastryingto give me everything. Including the moon and the stars.

That was love, right? Heloved me, whether he’d said it aloud or not.

It definitelyfeltlike love.

I kissed him again, becausewhat the hellelsewas I supposed to do?

Fox hummed, shifting hisweight, both of our bodies heating up and mine thrumming with anticipation. Iknew what every inch of him felt like against me now. All the miles of warmskin, the weight of his body, the strength of his muscles and, I rememberedwith a pang of lust, the length of his cock.

He laughed when the kissbroke, a sound that seemed to well up from the depths of his stomach, his wholebody shaking with it as he looked at me, eyes shining, like…

Like I was the most amazingthing he’dever seen.

Fox looked at me like hewanted to burn the shit out of a stack of pancakes every morning for mybenefit. As though justbeingwith me was enough, whatever I was doing.

My heart felt too big for mychest. How did I manage to win him over?

“Why me?” I asked while thequestion was still fresh in my mind.

Fox licked his lips. “You mean, why amI up here with you when you imagine I could have anyone I winked at?”
