“Do not look at me for support, human,” the strange red alien said from his seat, his head resting on his hands, pincer-thumbs moving distractedly. “The Tauri is wise to bring someone to guard his bride and us Cancos shall do the same when my turn comes.”

“So will I,” the other—the blond cat-like one—said with a strangely eerie tone.Kinda creepy.

“She’s human and it’s a human facility,” Maxwell argued, scoffing in disbelief. “She’s safe and—”

“Already damaged,” Ghauro interrupted. “I am not inclined to leave you with my bride unsupervised.”

Here it was again. Was my value based on the “condition” I was in? The spot where they inserted the translator was only slightly red. Or was he worried that I lied about having a child? I didn’t, but if he hoped for a virgin bride, he would be highly disappointed.

Not that I hadlotsof experience—just enough to know that sex felt good, but men turned to selfish jerks when they got what they wanted.

Wait…would his—cock even look similar to the ones I’ve seen before? Would it fit and our anatomy even be compatible? Testing in-vitro might have worked out, but it didn’t say if we could evendothe deed.

Not that I planned to. Why was I considering it? No. No, no, no. Bad vagina.Don’t get fucking wet thinkingabout it!The man was huge! And green! Maybe even a human-eater!

No. I needed to stick to my plan; to stay away from him as much as possible and get away as soon as I could.

“This is non-negotiable,” Ghauro added when the men didn’t respond. “It is also part of our traditions to have every bride looked after by a sibling, friend, or mother of the male before we are mated.”

I forced myself not to flinch at the repetition of the word;mated. Maxwell didn’t seem to like the idea, which made sense. I was still, technically, a prisoner here. He would have to pretend to treat me as a guest and move me from the tiny cell and into an actual room. Room that I would have to share with my future alien sister-in-law.

How grand.

“Fine,” Maxwell conceded. “But your sister will have to stay outside during every medical examination.”

Ghauro tilted his head to the side, his arms crossing over his chest. “No.”

“You can’t—”

“I said no.”

“How about I have a say in this?” I muttered.

I should have stayed quiet. Ghauro’s stern eyes landed on me as I internally cursed myself. “The humans have damaged you.”

“Only to allow her to understand you!” Maxwell snapped. “We all have one, see? Even you and every other species got this procedure done!”

Ghauro grunted, looking him down. “My sister stays.” Then, he turned his eyes back to me. “And will stay withMelanie at all times.” He paused, his face pulled taut in displeasure. “Unless Melanie requests to be left alone.”

Is my brother not good enough for you?

Melanie

The female waiting for me in my new room stood still and didn’t rip her cold gaze away from agent seventy-eight until he left.

“Are humans unable to keep their hands away from what does not belong to them?” she sneered at the closing door.

Belong? First, I was a damaged good, now some sort of fucking belonging? Damn, that day couldn’t get any weirder. But she was right; I hadn’t been allowed to walk anywhere without someone holding me like I might escape at all times.

The pale green, incredibly tall and sort of bulky woman took a step forward before circling me at a slow pace.

“You are even shorter than the short males,” she mused, sliding delicate fingers in my hair to hold a strand and inspect it. “What an odd but beautiful color. Is your tail the same—whereis your tail? Do all humans hide it?”

She turned frantic, sliding her hand over my damn ass and pulling at my jeans to look inside.

“Hey!” I said, swatting her away. She looked at me with wide eyes. “Humans don’t have tails, stop searching for it!”
