There were a few more seconds of awkward silence before Trevor leaned down and kissed her on the cheek.

“Thanks for dinner, Lex,” he whispered softly.

“You’re welcome,” she returned the whisper, desperate to touch the spot where his lips had just been.

Lexi had read about that special ‘spark’ some couples had from the start, but she never actually believed it was real. Until now.

Despite the jolt she’d felt, Trevor simply told her, “Goodnight, angel. I’ll call you tomorrow.”

She watched as he walked off the stoop and down the sidewalk to his car.

“Night handsome,” Lexi whispered back, knowing he wouldn’t be able to hear her. Turning away, she unlocked the door and went inside.

He hadn’t kissed her goodnight. Not really. She hated how disappointed she felt, but she couldn’t help it.

He’d claimed it was a great date, despite the whole flat tire debacle. So, if that were true, then why didn’t he give her a real kiss?

Lexi pulled a loose curl to her nose and inhaled. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that she still smelled like the diner’s fried food. Of course, he did say he’d call tomorrow, so she’d just have to wait and see.

Refusing to work herself up over nothing, Lexi headed for the stairs. She needed a shower and sleep. First, however, she was going to get on her computer and pull up her bank account.

Trevor had said the tire shouldn’t be that much, but she didn’thavethat much to begin with. She hated the idea of digging into her money jar, but she would, if she had to.

Wouldn’t be the first time, and the way her luck went, it probably wouldn’t be the last.

With a loud sigh, Lexi had just started up the steps when her doorbell rang. She spun around, surprised to see Trevor’s blurred figure through the door’s decorative glass window.

Afraid something was wrong, Lexi quickly made her way across the open area to unlock and open her door. The intense look on his face scared her.

“Trevor? Is something wrong?”

His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed hard. “Yes.”

That was it. He didn’t offer any other explanation for why he’d come back to her door. So, she decided to ask.

“Are you going to tell me what it is, or am I supposed to guess?”

His dark brows turned inward and he spoke low. “That kiss I gave you...on the cheek.”

Her heart thumped against her ribs. “W-what about it?”

“That’s what’s wrong,” he gritted out, sounding upset.

Looking up at him questioningly, Lexi prayed she wasn’t misunderstanding where this was headed.

His gaze burning into hers, Trevor shook his head. “That shouldn’t have been our first kiss.”

Before she could even think of a response, he grabbed the back of her neck and brought his lips to hers.

The tiny spark from before had nothing on the explosion she felt now. Fireworks ignited throughout her entire system as he finally kissed her the way she’d been craving.

Even on her tiptoes, Trevor towered over her. Wanting to make it easier on him, she closed what little space separated them and wrapped one hand around the back of his neck for support. Her short nails inadvertently dug into his tanned skin, which seemed to trigger something inside him.

Trevor took more control then, wrapping his free arm around her waist and pressing her body against his. Lexi could feel his erection through his jeans, her own sex becoming heavy and swollen with arousal.

She opened her mouth and Trevor wasted no time accepting the invitation. His tongue slipped inside and began to expertly dance with hers. His movements were powerful; their tongues thrusting together with a fierce and wild need.

Before she could stop it, a tiny mewling sound escaped the back of her throat. Her hips moved instinctively forward, her body seeking out the release it knew this man’s touch could provide.
