She wraps her arms around me and squeezes my butt, making little hmm sounds. “Hmmm. It is a very nice ass, but on second thought, maybe ‘Mr. Smartass’ would be a better name for you.” She gives me a smack on the ass before erupting into laughter and pushing me off of her. “Now, let’s find something to eat and then go to sleep. I have a job interview tomorrow that I’m excited about, so I want to be well rested.”
She leaves the bedroom naked, and if I had to guess, I’d say she’s searching for the clothes we threw all over the living room. I jump out and run after her, making it just in time to watch her pull her hoodie down over her butt.
“Damn, I missed the show.” I bend over and pick up my jeans, pulling them on sans boxers. “You’ll have to show me again later.” I walk to her and pull her into my arms, kissing her softly. “For now, how about I make us something to eat and you tell me all about your interview?”
Chapter 41
Rhea - News at the Precinct
We don’t even have a chance to look in the fridge before both of our phones start ringing. Aiden finds and answers his right away while I follow my ringtone so I can track mine down in the mess of clothes still on the living room floor. I finally find it hiding under my pants and answer it just before it cuts to voicemail.
“Hello?”
“Rhea? Something came up in the Frank Martin case. Can you come down to the precinct?”Kaden’s voice sounds funny, like he’s trying to hold in laughter. But if he’s calling to talk about Frank Martin, something big must be happening. Not sure why that would be funny, but I guess I’ll find out soon.
“What? Yeah. Yeah, OK. I’m on my way. Be right there.” I hang up without even saying goodbye and I’m pulling on my pants mere seconds later. Is he calling to tell me I can have my job back?
Do I even want my job back?
“Can you take me to the police station?” Aiden asks as he zips his pants and slips his phone in his pocket. He finds his shirt and slips it over his head. “Ryder says Gran, Gladys, and Lana have been brought in for questioning and he wants me to help him get them all home.”
I stop dead in my tracks. What are the odds that the Frank Martin case thing that Kaden just called me about and this Titty club arrest are connected? Probably pretty good, I’d say.
“Shit. Kaden called me about the Frank Martin case just now so I’m going there, anyway.”
Aiden stops his search for his shoes and looks at me. And then bursts out laughing.
“Oh fuck, what the hell did those old ladies get themselves into?” He’s shaking his head as he walks around the apartment, picking up stray socks and shoes as he goes. “They’ve been begging me to let them come on a ‘dick mission’, as they call it, for ages. You think maybe they gave up on me and went rogue? I know they were all quite upset about what that guy did and how he got you fired.”
“You know, normally I would say that three old ladies couldn’t possibly be involved in vandalizing a person’s property with giant dick pictures but… I have met these particular old ladies and I wouldn’t put it past them.” I take my shoes from Aiden and pull them on my feet without bothering to tie them. “But how would they have even gotten his address? I doubt Devon or Johnny would have told them.”
“Devon wouldn’t tell them, and I’m sure Johnny couldn’t tell them. Hell, I probably couldn’t find my way back there. Devon is the one who got the address from Kaden and he’s the one who drove us there. He knows what those women are like. I’m sure he wouldn’t give them the address voluntarily.”
Under some kind of underhanded persuasion, he might, though. That’s a different story altogether, but I don’t say that to Aiden. Let him believe the best of his friend for now.
“No sense in standing here talking about it, I guess. Let’s get to the precinct and get some answers.”

“You guys came together? I know what you were doing,” Ryder says in a singsong voice when we arrive at the precinct. He’s waiting by the front desk with Kaden. “I can’t wait to tell everyone else.”
“Fuck off, Ryder,” Aiden says, looking around the room. The titty club is sitting together on a bench just down the hallway and Kaden waves him by so he can go talk to them. Aiden leans over and kisses me before he goes and the butterflies I just got under control come rushing back. That man is something else.
“Where’s my wife when I need her?” Ryder complains before walking away to join Aiden. “I don’t think I deserved that one.”
Kaden watches them all for a moment while the ladies appear to be telling Aiden a very animated story involving explosions and rain, if I’m judging their gestures and body language correctly. I really hope that doesn’t mean they blew up someone’s house.
“Captain Ross wants to see you in his office,” Kaden tells me. “It’s good news.”
I raise my eyebrows in question. “Good news? Did Mrs. Martin leave her husband?”
“Just go talk to the Captain. He wants to tell you himself. I’ll go take care of the discharge paperwork for these fine ladies.” Kaden walks to the bench where Gran and her friends are sitting. “Alright ladies, let’s get you out of here. I’ll go get the paperwork completed and then you can get on your way.”
Shaking my head, I turn and walk to the Captain’s office. The door’s already open, so after a quick knock on the door frame, I poke my head in. “You wanted to see me, Captain?”
He looks up from his desk and smiles. “Come on in, Ryan.”
