“Do you think somehow you knew something was wrong with the situation? Like somehow, deep down, you knew I wouldn’t do that to you?” He whispers. I give it real consideration before I answer.
“It all happened so fast, but I recall a flash where I thought ‘he’s not even moving’. When you and I have been together, you were a very active participant. And last night you just weren’t. I know now that it’s because you were drugged and nearly unconscious.”
He uses his grip on my waist to pull us closer together. “I think you knew,” his whisper ghosts across my skin, sending a pleasant shiver up my spine. “I think you knew, and you were protecting me, even though your experiences were trying to convince you that something else was happening.” He leans in and kisses my forehead. “Thank you, Alex. You’re my hero.” He says with a smile, but under the joking tone, I know he’s serious. That shit last night scared him, and he is grateful that I was there for him.
I think he might be right; I think I knew.
I push him over onto his back and slide over to lay my head on his chest. His heart is beating a gentle rhythm and soon his breath steadies and slows. I match my breath to his, and before I know it, I’m asleep.
Chapter 55
Connor - Derek the Dickhead
Idon’t remember falling asleep last night, but when I wake up I’m wrapped around Alex. The sky is just starting to lighten outside, so I know that it’s very early still. I slide my arm out from under Alex’s head, careful not to wake her. Going out into the kitchen, I find her a bottle of water and painkillers and take them back to leave on her nightstand. After tracking down her keys so I can lock the door, I head out in search of breakfast.
The diner down the street is open, so I go in and order us two full breakfasts and coffees to go. Good thing these guys don’t know about my day of stalking or they might have refused to serve me. I guess Tino isn’t spreading the word as much as I thought. Breakfast is ready in about ten minutes and I turn around a go back to Alex’s place.
When I get up to the apartment, there’s some angry-looking guy banging on the door.
“Alex, just let me in. I just want to talk to you.”
“Uh, hey pal, can I help you?” I ask him. My arms are loaded with stuff and he’s kind of in my way.
“Get lost buddy, this doesn’t concern you.” the guy says to me. “I’m trying to get my girlfriend to open the door.”
“Oh, you must be Derek.” Now I understand. “I got bad news for you dude, she’s not your girlfriend. I would have thought she made that pretty clear when she took an umbrella to your ass. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get in there. I brought my girlfriend breakfast.”
I push my way around him and pull the keys out to unlock the door.
“You look familiar,” Derek says to me. “Aren’t you that guy from that band? Are you dating Becca or something?”
“Yes, I’m that guy.” I open the door. “And no, I’m not dating Becca.” Once inside, I kick the door closed behind me, right in his very surprised face.
Alex is sitting on the couch, looking nervous, but still gorgeous in just her panties and the sweatshirt she had on yesterday.
“Hey, baby.” I bend down and kiss the top of her head, and then put the bags on the coffee table. “I brought breakfast, and coffee.”
Before she has a chance to answer, we hear more pounding on the door. “Alex, answer this door. Are you dating that guy? What about us? I said I was sorry. You have to give me another chance.”
“What do you want to do, babe? Want to tell him to fuck off? Do you want me to call Devon to get rid of him?” I sit beside her and grab her hands. “You should know that I gave him the impression that we’re dating. I hope that’s ok.”
She takes a deep breath and runs her hand down her face. “Open the door. I don’t know how I could have been any clearer than hitting him with an umbrella and moving out, but I guess he’s a lot dumber than I thought.”
I stand up with her, and we go to the door. Before she opens it, I pull her into me and devour her mouth with a passionate kiss that leaves us both breathless. It’s a little childish, but I want her to know she’s mine before she sees this dickhead again. I know she’d never consider going back to him, but knowing she’ll have my kiss fresh on her lips when she talks to him makes me happy. Not to mention that he’ll be able to see the desire in her eyes and know that it’s not for him.
I lean into her. “I want to fuck you so bad right now,” I whisper before I lick up the side of her neck. “Maybe I should just fuck you right here against this door? But should we do that before you get rid of him? Or after?” I push her up against the door and kiss her again, pressing the hard ridge of my cock into her thigh. When she moans into my mouth and I know she’s as turned on as I am, I pull her away from the door and open it, dropping our kiss just as I do.
“What do you want, man? I’m trying to have some alone time with my girlfriend.” I have my arm around Alex and she’s leaning into me, breathing just a little too heavy.
“Derek,” she says, sounding exasperated. “Why are you here? I made it pretty clear that we’re done.”
“What the fuck, Alex. You’re leaving me for this guy?” He looks between me and Alex, trying to make sense of what he’s seeing. It’s hard to misunderstand this situation, considering I have my arm around her and she’s just wearing underwear and a sweatshirt. I think this guy might just be delusional. Seems he didn’t get the memo that she’s been gone for more than a week already.
Alex shakes her head. “No, Derek. I dumped you, last week, because I came home to find you fucking some bitch in our bed.”
“I said I was sorry.” Poor Derek seems to be confused. It’s almost like he really thought this would work. Even if I weren’t here, I know Alex wouldn’t fall for this guy’s bullshit. “I miss you.”
“Well, I don’t miss you, Derek. You need to leave.”
