I snuggle Molly into my chest, and she purrs softly.

After our delicious dinner, Kane showed me Molly’s bathroom—yes, I’ve deemed it hers, and I’m already planning on how to decorate it and make it fit for the little princess she is. ThenI assumed we’d go our separate ways, like we do most nights, so I was a bit taken aback when he asked if I wanted to watch a movie—and even more shocked when I agreed.

While we were scrolling, I sawGossip Girland made him click on it when he said he’d never even heard of it. We’re two episodes in, and Molly is cuddling between us, happy to finally have a home.

“She’s adorable,” he says dryly.

“Having rescuer’s remorse already?”

“No, but she’s a total cockblock,” he complains. “Every time I think about touching you, I swear she glares at me.”

“You should’ve thought about that when you decided to use her to bribe me back into your good graces.”

I quirk a knowing brow, and he shrugs.

“It worked. I just didn’t realize how needy cats were.”

“Just because she wants to be cuddled and loved doesn’t make her needy.” I lift her up and give her kisses. “I’m going to order you a custom collar,” I say to her. “I bet Gucci or Versace sells them. Which do you prefer?”

Kane chuckles. “Do you think—” His words are cut off by the sound of his phone ringing. “It’s Dominick.”

“Put it on speaker.”

He clicks Accept. “Dominick, what’s up?”

“We’re in the middle of watchingGossip Girl,” I add. “So, it’d better be important.”

“We have a problem,” Dominick says, his tone serious. “A body’s been found at the construction site down at the waterfront property.”

Kane’s eyes meet mine. “Do they know who it is?”

“No, but I have to ask?—”

“It wasn’t me,” Kane says, his gaze never leaving mine. “I want this expansion to be a success the same way you do. And in case you forgot, I have millions invested as well.”

Dominick curses under his breath. “I have our legal team onit. They’re in connection with our source inside the police station, and I’m hoping we’ll have more answers soon. In the meantime, we’re meeting at my office tomorrow morning, eight a.m.”

“I’ll be there.”

Dominick hangs up, and Kane exhales heavily.

“It has to be whoever is messing with your family.”

Molly uncurls, and Kane reaches over to pet her belly.

“Yeah, but the problem is, we’re no closer to finding out who that is. The mayor’s house has been bugged, but he hasn’t given shit away. We know it has something to do with Carlos Santiago since two people have mentioned his name, but that’s all we’ve got.

“Have you combed through your brother’s things? He might’ve been working with whoever it was. We can’t prove it, but we think Anthony was working with them because he didn’t have the money or resources to do some of the things he did.”

“I have.” Kane leans back and scrubs his face in frustration. “Enrique was smart and wiped his devices before he died.”

“I hate to say this, but maybe someone should reach out to Hillary and see if she knows anything.”

Kane glances at me for several seconds and then smirks. “If I tell you something, you have to swear not to tell anyone.”

“What?” I ask nervously.

“You have to swear. It’s not my place to say anything, so if you open your mouth, Lorenzo will know I told you.”
