“Keep saying my name, Charlotte,” he steps in front of me, “Do you want to listen to what I have to say or make me fulfill that promise?”

Both. I gaze into his face, his face darkened with lust. “I’m sorry. Please continue.”

He laughs, “Look at who’s got manners.” He doesn’t move, he stays where he’s at. “He’s not there. When I got there, the door was pried open. I looked through, checked to see if there was anything.” He continues.

“I sense a but,” I interject. His eyes narrow and I shut up, my butt almost slipping off the table.

“Someone busted the door and left little evidence. I have a strange feeling someone was looking for something and when they couldn’t find it, possibly took him.”

All the color in my face drains. Why would someone take Cedric? The man kept his nose clean, avoided any situations that could get him in trouble, and is a model mentor for the students.

I can’t sit here. I have to go look for him. I start to move, but am jerked back. Strong hands are keeping me in place.

“Let me go, 5-0” I grit out.

“No.”

“What the fuck you mean no?”

“You know you have a worse mouth on ya than Tessa.”

“Get out of my way.”

“Or what?” He challenges me.

“I’ll make you.”

“I’d like to see you try.” His face inches closer to me. “You can’t just leave.”

“Why not?”

He raises an eyebrow at me, “Because there is a little boy that is counting on you. You can’t keep getting up and leaving him. He’s going to start being worried.”

He’s right. I didn’t want Finn to think I was just leaving him. As much as I wanted to go and find Cedric. I couldn’t do it on my own.

“Stay there. I have a call to make and we’re going to continue this conversation.” I say, as he stares at me with a confused look. As I round my desk to get my phone and dial.

“Auntie. I know I’m seeing you next week and all, but could you come sooner?” I ask.

Keola mouths, what are you doing?I respond with a middle finger. He flinches towards me.

“Everything okay?” Her voice resonates with concern.

“Long story short, my volunteer Cedric is missing and I’m trying to go find him.” I start.

“And you need your tribe to help with Finn and want Auntie to help.” She finishes.

A small smile appears on my face. “Yes ma’am. Finn’s smart and I just don’t need him to worry.”

“And you figure you’d call your dear auntie,” Lilly is an amazing woman, and always in my corner.

“Well, and it would give me a chance to see you sooner,” I beam, there is a small happiness in my voice.

“I can fly out tomorrow and just need someone to come get me.” She says without hesitation.

“I love you to the moon,” I start to say.

“And back,bébé.” She hangs up the phone.
