“I know, unlike me.”

“No, no. I never said unlike you, you can take care of yourself. It’s when you are around administration. I already told you that you need to chill out with the ‘being aggressive’ around the system.” He says reaching for the candy bowl, digging through it.

“It’s called assertiveness,” I joke with him, rewarding me with a stare down. “I’m joking. I know I have a temper. It likes to flare up with disgruntled assholes who think they can overpower me.”

“Lottie.” He softly says, easing me to take it down a notch.

“I know, I know. Attract with more honey than vinegar. I’m working on it.”

“That’s my girl. I’m just looking out for you.” He looks out his window. “Um, speaking of looking out.” His face twists into a sultry smile. “I think someone has a protector. Or stalker. Or both.” He giggles, then crescendos into a full on belly laugh, more like a bellow.

I jump on the couch and pull down the blinds, son of a bitch.

Chapter 10

Keola

Five, four, three, two, and one. I counted down to when she would come and storm the parking lot.

“Keola, we might have a problem.” Tessa rings my phone.

“When don’t we?” I joke, but in her voice there is no joking matter. I still need to apologize for the shit I said at church.

“Someone on the education staff warned me that Lottie left the building on an errand at one of the high schools. They didn’t go into specifics, but my gut is saying otherwise,” she rushes her words. “She’s not answering my calls. Can you just check in on her? I’ll send you the address.” She hangs up.

What did you get yourself into, angel?

Charlotte storms out the front of the building, I lean into my biker, arms cross in front of me. She is looking at me as if the world is at war and she is leading the revolution.

And yet she is the most stunning woman I have laid eyes on. The fight inside of me wanting to either push her aside or make her mine is leaning towards the latter.

“I see that someone is truly taking the stalker role seriously,” her anger beams at me. A little bit of chaos in those green eyes of hers.

“When you leave work in a hurry and your boss gets wind of it. You tend to follow directions.” I start to say, she continues to approach me. “Also, the guys may have mentioned you flicking them off and driving away.”

“As you can see,” she starts gesturing towards the parking lot and the lack of individuals following her. Well except her friend that is smirking at us. “I’m not a damsel in distress. You can leave now.”

I shake my head, “Not until you tell me what is going on here.”

She wants answers and so do I.

“Not going to happen. You’ll just have to freeze here overnight in the parking lot.” She turns her nose up at me. Playing with fire sometimes is my speciality.

“Well if you won’t, I bet your friend over there who is giddy as hell, can tell me what happened.” I warned her.

“He wouldn’t tell you. He’s loyal,” she tries to reassure me.Oh, if only you knew.

I push off the biker and step towards her, “You think so?” I look deep into her eyes, as she challenges me.

Neither one of us is breaking contact.

“Hey brotha, you want to tell me why this one is being stubborn?” I get no reaction from her, she is determined that her friend won’t sing like a canary. Little does she know, he’s very much a cupid in disguise.

Her eyes never falter nor break. She is waiting for the test of loyalty to succeed. A cruel smile spreads across my face.

“There was a possible threat of drugs being in this school.” He lets out.

The softest of change in her face tells me I won this round.
