“What?” I asked.

“Huh?” she replied.

I stood perfectly still, staring at her. She sat on the bed, perfectly still, staring back at me. Each of us blinked, waiting for the other to say something, but neither of us moved.

Abigail finally broke the silence. “I shouldn’t have said anything. Forget I said anything.” She rose from my bed and began retrieving her clothes.

My mind couldn’t make sense of anything anymore. It was like my world split in half.

Asher’s gay?

I mean, the thought had crossed my mind because he never really did anything with girls. At least, nothing that I knew of.

Wait!“Asher isn’t gay. He was flirting with your friend!”

She stopped getting dressed, her stare boring into me. “They were talking about their mutual love for the movieThe Princess Bride.”

“So?” I asked.

“Have you ever seenThe Princess Bride?”

“No.”

It was Abigail’s turn to scrub her hands over her face. “I gotta get out of here. Forget I said anything. Please, forget I said anything.”

“Wait! You really think Asher is gay?”

She raised a brow and smiled. “Does that excite you?”

What? Was she crazy?“No! No, it doesn’texciteme, but he’s my best friend, and I want to know.”

“You shouldn’t need to askmeif he’s your best friend.”

Damn. Well, that was a punch to the gut. She must have seen it on my face because she added, “Look, maybe you’re straighter than I thought because you seem pretty oblivious, but Asher is beautiful. I mean like…beautiful.”

“Yeah, he’s always been a pretty boy.”

She pulled on her pants, buttoning them as she said, “Straight men are never that beautiful. You can be hot, sure, but he’s like…stunning. Only gay men are that hot.”

I couldn’t figure out if I was shocked or offended. “Straight dudes can be hot.”

“Not that hot.” She pulled her shirt over her head. We stared at each other for a moment, and she sighed. “This is fucked up. I don’t want to change your relationship with your friend. Please, forget I said anything. I have no idea what Asher is into. For all I know, he fucked my friend, and I’m over here making baseless assumptions.” She walked to the door, but before she opened it, she turned back to me and said, “It doesn’t matter if he’s gay or straight or whatever. I’ve seen you both at enough parties to know that you two are really close. He’s your friend, so his sexuality shouldn’t matter.” She shrugged then added, “Besides, you’rethe one screaming his name while you fuck girls that look like him from behind.”

With that, she ran out of the room, leaving me there to pick up the pieces of my sanity.

Chapter 10

Theo

A week had passed since I screamed Asher’s name while boning his female lookalike, and I had yet to figure out how not to be the most awkward person in the world around him.

My mind raced with all of the implications of what Abigail had said that day. If Asher were gay, and I was screaming his name during sex, did that mean I was gay? Or bi?

I didn’t feel gay. I didn’t even know if I wanted to have sex with Asher. His name just sort of spilled out of my mouth for some reason. It could have been because I was worried about him. I could tell he was upset about PCSHL, and I knew he didn’t have the best relationship with his mom. Maybe I was just thinking about him too much that night. Would that cause me to scream out his name during a blinding orgasm?

God, my head hurts with all of this.

We were packing up the last of our dorm room stuff. Soon, Mom and Dad would arrive to drive us home.
