If she wanted fries, she was going to fucking get fries. I took Henry’s plate out from under him and slid all his fries onto Westin’s now overflowing plate before giving Henry back his food.
“What the fuck?” Henry threw me a look of outrage as he leaned forward to see where his fries had gone. When he saw Westin popping one in her mouth, his expression softened.
Bear smirked as he watched all of this happen from across the table. “You know what we need?”
“No, but I’m sure I’ll hate the idea,” Liam muttered.
If he wasn’t such a bastard, I might have laughed.
“We need some fun. Why don’t we go to the fair tonight?” Bear suggested, ignoring his roommate’s mutterings.
Westin looked up from her plate and there was a brightness in her eyes. “Really?”
“Why not? We don’t have anything else planned.” Bear rubbed his hands together.
A wide smile spread across Westin’s face and she looked at the rest of us. “Do you all want to go?”
Her smile was the best fucking thing I’d seen all day, and I wanted to do everything I could to keep it on her face. But then, unease about going to the fair took over. I met Liam’s gaze and knew we were thinking the same thing. Would the rides and noise and crowds be safe for Westin? And not just because of her illness, but also because she was an omega. Everything I’d read suggested omegas became stressed in crowds.
“It might not be a good idea,” Liam said carefully. “We have to be back at the hospital tomorrow morning.”
“Right, which means we’re free tonight,” Bear said.
“I think the most important thing for Westin right now is to get plenty of rest,” Liam said.
“I disagree,” Bear responded, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms. “I think what she needs—what we all need—is something fun.”
Westin bit her lip, the sparkle in her eyes dimming. “What do you think?” she asked me.
Fuck. I was stuck.
I agreed with Liam. I wanted Westin protected. But Liam was also fucking annoying, and my alpha hated the idea of agreeing with him.
If I said yes, she might get hurt at the fair.
If I said no, she would look at me with her sad eyes.
I sighed. “You sure you’re feeling up to it?”
Liam rolled his eyes with a huff. “It’s not safe.”
“Henry, you’ve gone before,” Westin said, peering around my body. “What do you think?”
I cocked an eyebrow, wondering how this would go. From what I’d gathered earlier, Henry was not a fan of the fair. But he was a fan of Westin, and he couldn’t seem to refuse her anything.
Henry glanced at all of us before turning back to Westin. “I feel like it’s probably fine. If you’re not feeling up to it, you don’t have to do the rides. And we don’t need to stay long.”
“That’s the spirit,” Bear said, leaning over the table to clasp Henry’s shoulder. “That’s a majority.”
Westin bit her lip, looking at Liam with uncertainty.
He ran his hand over his face. “Fine, we’ll go.”
I pulled Westin in close and kissed the top of her head. “Do you want to see if Henry’s sister can come?” Part of me wanted as much time alone with Westin as possible, but she needed friends, and Henry’s family was good for her.
“Oh yes,” she said, pulling out her phone.
“And after you do that, I’d like you to try to eat a few more bites of food.” This time, she couldn’t escape the sternness in my tone. Her eyes were wide as she nodded.
