His eyes heat, but I don’t pause to enjoy my effect on Trey. I stomp on the accelerator, speeding away from the group. He instantly flips his visor down and grabs the dash with one hand and the oh-shithandle with the other.

“I’m starting to question if this was a good idea!” He sounds nervous as we speed across the sand. I laugh and spin the wheel, whipping a doughnut, before throwing the steering wheel the other direction, making a figure eight. We tip, leaving only two tires on the ground as we slide around another circle.

“Listen, I’m always down for a good time, but I do enjoy living!” Trey yells as I kick up dust everywhere.

I straighten out and line up with a big hill. “How fast can this thing go?”

“This one? Sixty or seventy. But this isn’t a race, Jessie, and we shouldn’t—”

I punch it right toward the hill.

“Jeessiee . . .” Trey lets out what can only be described as a warning screech.

I can’t see his eyes, but the way he’s bracing himself, I can only imagine how big they are right now. We hit the top of the hill and go flying off, then we’re floating.

I let out a “Wahooo!” before laughing maniacally.

Trey screams like a girl.

We hit the ground on the other side, and I line it out before going into another figure eight. The smile on my face probably makes me look like a psychopath, but this is absolutely the most fun thing I have ever done.

“We’re going to die. I’m. Going. To die,” Trey yells as he holds on for dear life. “No,” he continues, “first I’m gonna throw up, then I’m going to die.”

“Oh, stop being dramatic. You have plot armor; you’ll be fine.”

“I don’t know what that means!” he shouts as I line us up for another jump.

Chapter 21

Jessie

Trey stomps up the steps to the Airbnb. “Wait until I tell Dot you tried to kill me.”

“Always so dramatic. The big, tough bull rider can’t handle a couple of jumps and some doughnuts.”

“You used the roll cage! We literally rolled over!” He throws his arms out. Clearly still upset about theonetime I tipped us over.

“We were perfectly safe with the three-point harnesses and helmets. That’s why they say to keep arms and legsinsidethe vehicle.”

Trey looks at me like I’ve lost my mind before unlocking the door and stepping inside. We’re covered in sand and dust from head to toe. We take turns showering before warming up the takeout we brought back with us.

I caught Trey glancing at the hot tub earlier, and I’m dying to get in it again, but neither of us has said a word about it. My muscles are sore, and it’s been a long day, but I refuse to be theone who brings it up. Trey is so fun to be around. He always makes me laugh and smile—I don’t want to ruin our night like yesterday. Plus, we have two more nights of sharing a bed, and it’s already hard enough not to jump his bones.

We’re clearing the takeout containers when Trey says, “I don’t know about you, but I’m getting in the hot tub sincesomeonejarred myaching back.”

“Oh, please. You feel fine.” I follow him into the bedroom space. “But if you’re getting in, so am I.”

We change into our suits before soaking. Stargazing and relaxing.

“What’s on tomorrow’s agenda?” I ask. They got a ton of photos and video footage today, so I’m not sure what they’ll do for an entire other day.

“More photos and videos, but they’ll bring out the Rage Girls. They’re like the Monster Girls. We’ll do video and photos together, more promo stuff.” He shrugs like it’s no big deal. I’m sure to him it isn’t, although I heard Greg tell someone Trey has worked with them for three years. This company must be huge and clearly treats him really well.

“Nice, that’ll be cool. I might hike up the smaller mountain if I won’t be in the way.” I noticed they were only shooting with the larger mountain range in the background.

“Go for it. They won’t shoot in that direction. Make sure you take water with you.”

I nod, and we slip back into silence. An electric charge fills the space around us. We’ve always had tension between us, but since that kiss—my blood heats just thinking about it—it’s off the charts. I know he feels it, too, and by the sound of it, he’s not opposed to it happening again.
