Logan:When I get in, I want you wearing that lingerie you showed me.

Cassie:What…this?

My heart hammers when I see the photo that comes in. Her with a finger on her lips. Wearing a blindfold.

Guess she’s already a step ahead of me.

I get in the truck and I drive a little faster this time.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

LOGAN

Riverbend is quiet at this hour. Streetlights, empty roads, the occasional flicker of a TV through someone’s window. The kind of stillness that makes everything feel a little more real.

It’s silent but maybe a little more dangerous. This is when the wolves come out and howl.

My hands tighten slightly on the wheel as I pull onto her street. The place is dark, except for one light upstairs.

I kill the engine but don’t get out right away.

I just sit there, staring, and thinking about the texts, and the way she said she missed me. Plus the photo and the blindfold…

I exhale slowly, dragging a hand down my face.

I’m out of the car before I can second guess whatever’s happening.

The night air hits me as I walk up the short path. Every step feels louder than it should, like something’s about to happen and the whole world knows it.

The door opens before I turn my key.

And there she is.

The same girl I know, but she seems different tonight.

Her hair’s a little messy. She’s barefoot, wearing something soft and oversized that hangs just enough off one shoulder to make it impossible not to notice what’s underneath.

We just…look at each other for a second.

Just that same pull that’s been there all week.

“Hi,” she says, quiet.

“Hey.”

Neither of us moves. Then she steps back, opening the door wider.

I walk in.

The air inside is warmer. Softer. It smells like her—flowers and something faintly sweet.

The door clicks shut behind me, and that’s when the vibe shifts.

I take a step closer, and she doesn’t back up.

So I take another step.

Now we’re close enough that I can see the way her chest rises when she breathes. The way her fingers flex slightly at her sides.
