“How can I when I know what they sacrificed?”

“I know it's hard to grasp, but would you rather not know? Because I can erase your memory and...”

“No, don't do that.” Star might’ve been unable to grasp everything Chase told him, but he didn't want the memory to be gone. It would motivate him to live in the moment and not the past. “I wish I could see them and thank them.”

“You can.”

“How?” Star felt his face light up.

“By living this life to the fullest. Let them see their son shine and be the star you are meant to be.”

Star thought about it for a few minutes; although it would have been better to see his parents, Chase was right. He had to shine so they could see. “All right,” he said, then took a deep breath. “What else do I need to know?”

“I can't tell you everything; there are some things you need to experience as it comes. Just try to feel Valleywood's magic around you. The town's magic is getting better since Loki took over, and one day it will be as strong if not stronger than Vale Valley.”

Chase had a dreamy look on his face, but there was one thing Star wanted to ask. “Chase?”

“Yeah?”

“What the fuck are you talking about? Are you trying to tell me that other than us being magical, the town is, too?”

Chase barked out a laugh. “Not only towns but cars.”

“Shit!” Star stood, staring at Chase in shock. “Are you for real?”

“Oh yeah. Well, let's have a good chat, and I'll tell you all about some of the exciting and outrageous shit that goes on in Valleywood. I can even share a bit of juicy gossip, too! But let's do this properly, shall we?” Before Star could even react, Chase had already risen to his feet and made his way to a wall adorned with floggers. Star's eyes widened in amazement as the wall parted to reveal a cellar stocked to the brim with top-shelf liquor and wine that Star had never seen, but he could tell they were way above his pay grade just from how exquisite the bottles looked. He joined Chase's side, examining the labels in fascination. “Promise me you won't tell Master Anubis or Thor about this.”

“Anubis and I aren’t that close, and I have no idea who Thor is,” Star deadpanned.

Another person named after the mythical gods. Damn, are their parents hopeful or what?

“Dragon Fire Whiskey will do the trick,” Chase said, bringing Star back to his senses.

Star was intrigued by the flaming-red whiskey and sampled it despite his initial hesitation. As soon as it hit his tongue, he felt like he had swallowed a fireball, yet the sweet aftertaste could not be denied. With each sip, Star grew more relaxed and amused by the stories Chase was sharing. By the time he had reached his seventh or eighth glass, Star and Chase were quite intoxicated, and Star could have sworn he saw Anubis before he blacked out.

Chapter Fourteen

ANUBIS

Anubis growled, reaching for his cell phone, which was ringing annoyingly, waking him from a blissful sleep. “You better be dying to call me so late.”

“Is there a reason a pretty drunk redhead is in your private room with Chase, cursing and screaming your name?”

At Thor's question, Anubis sat up. “What? Redhead? What the fuck are you talking about?” As he asked, one person's image crossed before his eyes.It couldn't be him, Anubis thought.

“Get to the club. You'll see for yourself.”

Thor hung up, and Anubis stared at his phone, wondering what the fuck was going on. Mumbling, Anubis got out of bed and hurriedly cleaned and dressed, then teleported to his private room at the club and sighed, seeing Chase and Star slumped on the couch with their heads next to each other.

“I'm glad you're here,” Thor said.

“You gave me no choice,” Anubis snapped, picking up a bottle of Dragon Fire Whiskey he had gotten from his brother many moons ago.

“I can't believe they drank the whole damn thing,” he grumbled.

He had been saving it for a special occasion, but now the two drunk bastards had drunk it all. Anubis narrowed his eyes with plans to punish the sub, but he would have to wait until the boy was sober and most definitely his to claim.

“That's not all they drank,” Thor said. “But the burning question is, do you know the redhead?”
