“Why does it have to be dinner? Can’t we just meet at his office?” Uriel rattled off, dreading the prospect of meeting with Dagon. “Will you be there?”
Uriel hadn’t seen Khray in a few days since the other man was sticking to Blue’s side and had been communicating via phone and video calls. Uriel had also stopped asking about Blue because he knew the man was pretending his memory loss and childhood regression.
The only thing he wasn’t faking was his broken bones. Uriel and his partners hadn’t solved the Benito part of the case yet, but he wasn’t worried, since he knew that Synder had people watching him for illegal activities. Uriel was sure that Benito would make a move because his first attempt to kill Blue hadn’t succeeded. It was only a matter of time.
“I won’t argue with the man if he wants to spend money on expensive food for a meeting that might be less than ten minutes, and of course I will be there,” Khray said.
Uriel breathed a sigh of relief. He never wanted to be alone with Dagon, and had a feeling that if he made one little mistake, Dagon would figure out Uriel was not the real Blue Lennox. Uriel had an outstanding track record when it came to his job and didn’t plan on fucking it up with his personal hang-ups. Not only that, but out of the two who had tortured him, Uriel wanted Dagon to suffer the most.
He couldn’t get his revenge on Dio even if he wanted to, because of a deal they'd made when he left the lord angel's service. However, Gadriel and Dagon were different; it was only a matter of time before Uriel took his revenge. He didn't know if he wanted to kill them or make them suffer the same way he had. Yet Uriel didn’t want to offset the balance of his karma by killing them too soon. He just needed to do a few more good deeds.
Being a body double wasn’t only for his job. Uriel figured the more he helped others, the less the universe would punish him when he did something out of his character. Uriel reached down and rubbed the remnants of the scar on his right leg, courtesy of Dagon.
Closing his eyes, he banished the memory away before it could surface and focused on the matter at hand. “Send me the time and place and I’ll meet you guys there,” he told Khray when he realized the car had come to a stop and the driver had gotten out, then opened the door for him.
“All right,” Khray said, and they both disconnected the call at the same time.
Uriel looked around as he got out of the car and realized they were in one of the vacant lots of Valleywood Studios and didn’t remember them driving onto the lot that was surrounded by trees.
“Sir, please follow me,” the driver said and started walking down a walkway paved with concrete leading to a garden.
In the center was a wrought-iron canopied gazebo with privacy curtains tied to the sides. Uriel walked over to the table that was set for two and ran his fingers along the white tablecloth, wondering what Azazel was up to.
As if the man knew he was thinking about him, Uriel felt Azazel's presence behind him. Slowly turning, he held back the moan threatening to escape when his eyes landed on the handsome devil. Azazel was dressed in black with a purple shirt, the top two buttons open.
Azazel’s black hair was not tied back like he normally wore it each time Uriel spotted him. It was loose and free, draped over his shoulders. Uriel licked his lips, clearing his throat but hopefully not his common sense since he wanted to jump the man’s bones right then and there, his hunger turning into something else.
“Did you need to send a car to ask me out to lunch?” Uriel wanted to walk over to him but stayed where he was so that he wasn’t tempted to follow through with his thoughts.
“Think of this as the first stages of me trying to woo you back into my bed.” Azazel smiled seductively.
Uriel raised a brow and asked, “Only your bed?”
“Oh, sweet baby, you’re already in my heart.”
Uriel rolled his eyes, trying not to show how much Azazel’s words affected him. The man had a silk tongue and knew how to use it in many ways to make Uriel beg and blush.
“We need to set some ground rules,” Uriel said.
“Already? We haven’t gotten to that kind of play yet.” Azazel licked his lips and eyed Uriel up and down as memories of their past lovemaking came to mind.
Uriel blushed but didn’t lose focus of what he wanted to say. “I’m not talking about that. Let’s be serious for a second.”
“Fine, I’m listening.”
“This is the first time anyone has blown my cover, and I’m a bit unnerved by it. So while I’m working as Blue Lennox I can’t be seen with you. I don’t want rumors to mess things up when he gets back to work.”
“So Blue Lennox is real and you’re pretending to be him. Why?”
“That’s confidential,” Uriel said. “I just need you to continue to treat me the way you have been when we are around other people.”
Azazel stared at him for a few seconds before he spoke. “Very well, but since we’re laying down ground rules. Whenever it’s just us, I’d rather see your face and not his.”
Finding that it was a simple and easy request, Uriel shifted back to his regular self.
“So you can take on another person. I thought you were wearing a mask,” Azazel said and walked over to him and touched his face. “Kristoph, my bearer, could do it as well.”
“I know,” Uriel smiled. “I found out that I had gained the ability about ten years ago.”
