At the restaurant, he was enjoying the mood between them, and it felt like old times with the subtle flirting, and for a second, Uriel almost forgot that the man was his ex-lover.
How dare he do this to me! Thirty years, my ass.Uriel looked at Azazel out of the corner of his eye.Who the hell are you trying to kid? My dude, you can miss me with that bullshit. Maybe I should give Synder’s foolish idea some serious thought.
“What's on your mind?” Azazel asked, cutting through his thoughts.
“What?” Uriel asked.
“You keep sighing as if you have something heavy on your mind.”
“Oh.” Uriel turned in his seat and looked at Azazel. “I was thinking about my bastard of an ex-lover.”
“Really? A bad break-up, I take it?”
“You can say that,” Uriel said and studied Azazel’s face as he said his next words. “He cheated on me with someone I didn’t like.”
Uriel furrowed his brows when Azazel’s face showed no reaction.
Maybe he doesn’t know who I am,Uriel thought.
Azazel tsked. “What an asshole.”
You’re the damn asshole, dammit!“Yes, he really is.”
“I hope you beat the shit out of him?”
“No, he doesn’t know I saw him,” Uriel whispered.
They reached their destination and Azazel parked the car, then turned to look at him. “I think men who cheat should have their dicks cut off.”
Does that mean I can cut yours off, you damn cheater?Uriel mentally asked.
“Come on,” Azazel said. “Let’s go look at our beautiful city.”
Uriel watched as Azazel got out of the car, telling himself that he should head home instead of playing along with his cheating ex.
“Are you coming?” Azazel stuck his head in the window.
“Yeah.” Uriel got out of the car and joined Azazel, looking over Valleywood, a city that was more complex than his emotions.
CHAPTER TEN
Azazel looked out on the city, watching the nightlife become more lively with each sparkling light. It reminded him of the lower realms, but with more of a heartbeat. Before coming to the human world, he closed the gates to the lower realms, letting his angels and demons roam free, with a few stipulations. One was that they could not hurt humans purposely, punishable by death at his hand. He didn’t want his new goal to be ruined by his subordinates.
He didn’t plan on running for president, because that wasn’t his thing, but he wanted to make a tremendous impact on the human world that was everlasting.
“You know, this is the first time I’m seeing the city from this view,” Blue said beside him.
“I come up here often when I need to think.”
“I can see why, it’s beautiful up here.”
Azazel turned and looked at Blue. The light wind ruffled his black hair and his eyes focused on the city. He couldn’t deny that the man was gorgeous and wasn’t afraid to tell Azazel off. Azazel had always liked a man who spoke his mind; it was one of the things that attracted him to Uriel.
Shit, I need to stop thinking about Uriel.
“Yeah, it is,” Azazel said, looking back out at the city. “It has its faults, but that’s okay. That’s why Loki and I are here to fix it.”
“How? I get the feeling the mayor really isn’t interested in making the city better.”
