“So why don’t you seduce him and let him fall for you, and when you have him right where you want him, let Azazel feel what it’s like to be cheated on.”

Uriel looked at his friend as if he’d lost his mind. “Doesn’t that sound a bit childish?”

“Uri, all revenge is childish, but we do it because it’s supposed to make us feel good in the end.”

Uriel looked out of the window, contemplating Synder’s idea. “I don’t know if I can do that.”

“Because you still have feelings for him?”

Uriel looked at Synder and answered honestly. “Yeah, I still have feelings for him. Azazel was my first love, but that's not my biggest worry. What happens if he finds out who I really am?”

“Good point,” Synder said. “Then what do you want to do? You can’t keep holding on to this hurt for the rest of your life or you won’t be able to move on. I bet you’re lonely.”

“Of course I’m lonely,” Uriel whined. “And I don’t know what I’m going to do. Maybe after this case I’ll take some time off and try to figure things out. Speaking of which, what’s up with Blue?”

“Terry was just here and wanted to talk to him, but Blue was reluctant to say anything. He keeps asking for you, and although we've tried to tell him you’re not his brother, he won’t listen. So Terry suggests you should develop a relationship with him, hoping to get him to open up.”

Terrence Douglas was the doctor Synder had hired to work with Blue Lennox.

“All right. Have you found out anything else about his family?”

“Not yet, but I have my guys looking into it. I might need to borrow Orion for a little bit longer.”

Uriel nodded, but he also noticed Synder had a pensive expression. “What? You have something on your mind and you don’t want to say it yet. Maybe you’re thinking what I’m thinking?”

“Something about all of this isn’t sitting well with me,” he said.

Synder went to say more, but Uriel stopped him. "Say no more, because I’ve been thinking the same thing.”

“Kayne thinks I’m reading too much into things, but I’ve lived a long time and seen a lot of shit that people have done.”

Synder was an ancient being, and rumor had it, he had a strong connection to Dracul, who was the first known vampire. No one knew for certain, since neither Kayne nor Synder talked about it. However, Uriel trusted Synder's instincts, knowing that his friend was never wrong.

“I feel the same way, but it’s not for me to investigate. That’s your job. Just tell me when to duck.”

“Of course. I got your back.” Synder smiled. “Since we agree on the case, you should think about my revenge idea. Or are you willing to admit Azazel’s your mate?”

Uriel rolled his eyes, refusing to look at his friend and ignoring Synder’s last words. For years, Kayne and Synder have gone back and forth on whether Azazel was Uriel's mate. Synder believed the reason Azazel could cheat on him was because they hadn’t completed the mating process and maybe he was tricked into cheating. Kayne thought that if they were really mates, Azazel would never have cheated, mating steps completed or not. Kayne also pointed out that it was hard to trick the god of manipulation.

Uriel was not sure what to think, but he had to agree with Kayne. Instead of bringing up those points, Uriel focused on the fruit bowl on the counter and said. “Is that for Blue?”

“Yeah.” Synder set the bowl on a tray and handed it to Uriel. “Take it to him and see what you can get out of him.”

“Wish me luck.”

Uriel walked into Blue’s bedroom and was pleased to see the man sitting up and looking out of the window. The nurse, Shanna, looked up when she noticed Uriel had entered.

“Hey, Blue, look who’s come to see you,” Shanna said sweetly.

Blue turned his head, and his blue eyes sparkled the second he saw Uriel. “Brother, you came.”

Uriel nodded and walked farther into the bedroom, setting the fruit tray down on the nightstand.

“They tell me you’re not cooperating with the doctor. Don’t you want to get better?”

Blue looked away from Uriel. “I don’t like that doctor. He keeps asking me stupid questions, like how old I am and if I know my name, and then he tells me you’re not my brother. How stupid is that? Of course I know all of those things.”

“Then tell me the answers and I will tell the doctor,” Uriel said.
