There would be no denying that they were father and son. In the past two months, Uriel sat down with Jacqui's and Alphonso to work out a deal for Kristoph, leaving him time for acting, school, and his activities. Uriel was very supportive of his son's decision to become an actor, but he still wanted him to have a great childhood before becoming a responsible adult.

He knew that Kristoph had auditioned for the part inThe Travellerand was waiting to hear back from the casting director. If Kristoph got the part, there was no denying it, Azazel would notice the resemblance.

Fuck, I really didn't think this whole Kristoph acting thing through.

“What’s wrong with you?” Khray asked next to him.

“What?” Uriel glanced at the man sitting next to him, then back to the road.

“I asked, what’s wrong with you? You’re gripping the steering wheel so tight I’m afraid you might break it.”

“Oh,” Uriel said, looking down at his fingers, noticing how white they were, and loosened his grip on the wheel, trying to relax a bit. “Sorry, I have something on my mind.”

“I see.”

Uriel sighed and leaned back in his seat and focused on the road, pushing his family matters to the back of his mind. He hadn't lied to Azazel about picking Khray up from the hospital. Not long after they had gotten Blue situated, Khray had gotten sick with a high fever and severe pain all over and had to be hospitalized. At first no one knew what it was, his illness, until a blood test showed that he had alpha-beta syndrome.

Just like with latent omegas who were born betas and later developed the omega gene, the same could happen to a beta becoming an alpha, changing their genetic markup and pheromones. No one knew why or what was the cause, but it did cause issues for the society, especially those who were married to someone who was not their mate.

“I never told you, but how did you know that Blue didn’t like Deputy Mayor King?”

“Just a lucky guess, he looks like an arrogant asshole.”

Khray laughed. “That’s exactly what Blue said.”

Uriel smiled. “Seems like Blue and I would get along.”

“I’m sure you would,” Khray mumbled. “So what’s your secret?”

Uriel furrowed his brows but didn’t turn to look at Khray. “My secret?”

“Yeah, your facial disguise looks like the real Blue. I can’t for the life of me figure out how you did it.”

Uriel chuckled. “I can’t reveal that to you. It's a trade secret. If I tell you, I really will have to kill you.”

“Somehow I believe that.” Khray snickered. “All right, let’s go over things today. I take it that things are working out with Yoko, your personal assistant, and she hasn't suspected anything?"

"Yeah, everything is good on that front. I can tell she's very dedicated to Blue."

Khray chuckled. "She's very protective, and kind of reminds me of a cat ready to scratch out people's eyes for Blue's sake.”

That's because she is a cat,Uriel thought. If Yoko didn't want Khray to know she was a cat shifter, it wasn't for him to reveal the information. Yoko Brooks was twenty-three and started working for Blue right out of college. Uriel wasn't sure why she chose to be Blue Lennox's personal assistant when she had a degree in nursing. However, it wasn't for him to question people's life choices when he pretended to be others for a living.

“I’m just glad she hasn’t noticed anything different about you,” Khray said.

“Why would she?” Uriel rolled his eyes. “I told you I’m good at my job. I look, smell, and sound like Blue, so no one will be able to tell the difference.”

“I see,” Khray said. “I won’t see you for a bit, since I’ll be going back to the safe house and working with my other clients. Um... has anything changed while I was in the hospital?"

Uriel knew what Khray was asking. As per Khray's request, no one told Blue that his lover was sick and in the hospital. However, Uriel knew Blue never once asked to see Khray, and he still hadn't recovered his memories. The only person he'd been asking to see was Uriel, who hadn't been to see him since Blue was dropped off at the safe house.

“No,” Uriel answered. "Everything is still the same."

"Oh." Khray sighed dejectedly.

“But I wouldn't worry so much, the doctor Synder found is pretty good with situations like this. I'm sure your lover will get his memories back soon. All you can do is be by his side,” Uriel said, trying to be encouraging. "He's asked to see me, so I'll make time to visit soon."

“I hope you’re right. But why do you need to see him?”
