“What are you talking about?”
Crevan got up and went over to the tree pulling out the large crate and flipped the top open. Pulling out one of the wines, he carefully handed it to Alistaire who observed the bottle getting a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach. The wine was a vintage French dating back to 1796. Crevan was right, the wine was quite expensive per bottle and looking at the case there had to be six total.
Who would spend so much money?
“You said a note came with the case. Can I see it?”
“Sure,” Crevan pulled out a card from the back of his pocket and handed it to Alistaire.
For the first night, we make love and into forever after.
Alistaire snapped his head up and looked at Crevan. “Baby, I didn’t send these to you.”
“Really?” Crevan creased his brows. “If you didn’t send them, then who did?”
“Maybe you have a secret admirer,” Corbin giggled.
“Secret admirer, my ass.” Crevan shivered. “That’s just creepy. A person I’ve never met sending me such expensive wines does not bode well with me. If I had an address, I’d send them back.”
“Why, these are a collectors dream. If I were you, I’d keep them,” Corbin added.
Alistaire listened to Corbin and Crevan banter back and forth between each other about the wines. Alistaire looked down at the note trying to figure out who had their eyes on his mate—the only name that came to mind was Euan Gillies.
The man was using his mate to taunt him, and Alistaire wasn’t going to let it happen. Another thought occurred to Alistaire.
Other than the time in the forest, when did Crevan bump into Euan Gillies?
Chapter Sixteen
Alistaire shifted between the pictures Dilen had brought back from his investigation. It was Euan Gillies, but he looked a bit different from their last encounter.
“Are you sure that’s him?”
“Yeah.”
Dilen had pulled Alistaire away from the family gathering, borrowing Barret’s study to show him what he’d collected over the past couple of weeks. The photos were all from different years. In each of them, he looked completely different—from young to old.
It gave Alistaire an idea of how Euan had been evading law enforcement for all the shit he’d done over the years. He was a master of disguise, and if Alistaire couldn’t sense his presence because of magic, he could encounter Euan at any time and wouldn’t know it.
“No wonder we haven’t been able to find him,” Alistaire said. He looked at Dilen and wondered what LaMarkus had told him. “What did my uncle tell you about this case?”
“Not much that would invade your privacy.” Dilen shrugged a shoulder. “All I know is he killed someone important to you, and you’ve been searching for him ever since.”
“He killed my parents and my first mate.”
Dilen nodded. “That would warrant revenge.”
“Once he’s dealt with, I can feel at ease.”
“Have you told Fox about this guy?”
“I have, but I haven’t told him about my first mate.”
Dilen hummed. His eyes trailed down to the ring on Alistaire’s finger. “Don’t hurt him, or this Euan Gillies will be the least of your problems.”
Alistaire snorted but didn’t dispute the man’s words. All the other man was doing was protecting his family.
“Did you guys ever find out what happened to the guys who attacked Corbin?”
