Is he trying to use my mate to get to me?

But he was angry at himself for not telling his mate sooner about his family.

“Chance, can you get him out of here. Please,” Quintus asked, not looking away from him.

“Come on, Scott. Let’s go,” Chance said, taking him by his arm but Scott pulled it away.

“Hurt him and I swear on Odin’s blood I will kill you.”

Everyone gasped at hearing Scott’s threat, but he ignored it and stormed out of the restaurant. He’d deal with Quintus later. For now, he needed to calm down.

Fucking Loki.

What the fuckhas gotten into Scott?

Quintus was angry, but he was also more concerned as to why his mate would attack a stranger. He knew Scott was the jealous type...hell they both were. But even before admitting they were mates, Quintus hadn’t thought about or looked at another man.

“Is he always like that?” Brooks asked him. “You said he was your mate. Should I be worried about your safety?”

Quintus looked at Lucas Brooks, wondering what was it about the man that had his mate flying off into a rage. Scott seemed to know him, but Brooks claimed he’d never seen Scott before. Quintus didn’t think Scott would lie to him. When it came to Brooks, he wasn’t sure.

Quintus sighed in exhaustion, he was getting tired a lot lately and found himself trying to take catnaps to replenish his energy. He was much busier than average—he knew business picked up in the summertime. It seemed there was always someone who wanted something newly built or fixed up.

He had been running around all day and going from one meeting to the next, only stopping for short breaks. It was why he went with business casual rather than his regular jeans andT-shirt. He’d left his office once to meet with Myra, the owner of Beyond the Vale Tattoo shop, deciding to get a present for Scott.

After returning to his office, he’d had three conference calls and got an update with his foremen on the projects they were working on. When he’d started his meeting with Lucas Brooks in his office, the other man had suggested they conduct business over lunch. Not seeing the harm in it, Quintus had agreed.

“Are you lying to me?” Quintus asked.

“About what?” Brooks asked.

“Not knowing Scott?”

“I assure you, Mister Wolfe. I have no clue who that was. Maybe I should report him to the authorities for accosting me the way he did.” Brooks raised a brow, looking at Quintus daringly. “Do I need to reconsider doing business with your company, since he is your mate?”

Quintus stared at him and the tingling in the back of his mind told him Brooks’s words might sound like the truth, but there were lies mixed in between. He also couldn’t believe the man was threatening to walk away from their business dealings.

“If that is your wish, Mister Brooks, I will not stop you. However, considering my company is the only construction business in Vale Valley, good luck finding someone to do business with you.”

Quintus had never walked away from a business deal worth millions, but for his mate he would.

Scott better be in a good mood when we talk later. Cause I am giving up a lot for him right now.

“I'm sorry for my rash judgment, Mister Wolfe." He smiled and looked Quintus up and down. He felt sick to the point of wanting to throw up. "I like a man who stands on his principles.”

"Are we doing business or not, Mister Brooks?" Quintus asked, ignoring the man's lustful stare.

“Let's continue with our meeting. Or do you need to run after your mate?”

“No,” Quintus answered. “I need to give him some time to cool off.”

“Well, men do crazy things when they are in love." Brooks placed a hand on the small of Quintus's back, leading him to their table. "But if you need an ear, I promise to listen." His words sounded as if they were being dipped in honey—adding to the soft seductiveness of his voice.

It should have turned him on, but it made him sick to his stomach.

Feeling uncomfortable, he stepped away from the man's touch. "Thank you, but I'm sure Scott and I will talk things through.”
