Maybe I should tell Scott his assistant is going around telling his business. Even if it’s just my sisters he’s speaking to.
“Marlow shouldn’t be telling you about Scott’s personal matters. I hope you’re not blabbing it all over town. Let the man be.”
“We haven’t said a word. We told Marlow it wasn’t his place to tell us in the first place. But Marlow was just feeling sorry for Scott who hasn’t been able to let go of his ex-lover’s death.” Arianna explained. “He cares about Scott and looks up to the man as if he was an older brother. He only wants to see Scott happy and spoke to us in honest concern.”
Quintus nodded. “Okay, thanks for explaining. And that is very romantic and honorable. He must have loved him very much.”
“Yeah, Scott seems like the kind of guy who would do that, which is why he needs someone who will love him to the depths of the earth.”
Quintus didn’t respond, but he agreed with her completely. Speaking with his sisters made him wonder if Scott could fall so deeply in love with him. He couldn’t think too deeply about it, not when he couldn’t even say they were mates out loud.
“All right, let me get out of here or I’m going to be late.”
They walked out of his office and Quintus wondered if he should talk to Scott about his dead lover.
What the hell am I supposed to say? I’m sorry about your dead lover?
He couldn’t do that. Quintus hadn’t heard anything about the man’s past lovers, but knew one day he would. Until then, he’d wait for Scott to tell him. Learning new and old things about each other was how people started relationships. Grabbing his jacket, he quickly shrugged it on to meet Scott for their lunch date. He was so excited, he wasn’t sure how he was controlling his emotions. Picking up his cellphone and tablet, he walked out of his office and passed by his assistant Dina’s desk.
“Off to lunch, boss?”
“Yeah, Dina. I have my cell if there are any issues.”
“You got it, have a good one,” she called after him.
“You too.”
When he got outside, he took off his jacket notingit felt a lot warmer than it did when he got to work. Slinging his jacket over his arm he made his way to The Cafe Corner where he was going to meet Scott. They decided it was better to meet there instead at his mom’s diner. He looked down at his phone quickly and in that split second, he bumped into something.
He looked up and for a quick moment, and thought the person who he ran into was Scott. But the person couldn’t be, because Scott had silver hair not long and blond. And where Scott’s eyes were bright blue, the man in front of him had green. But they had a similar build. Stepping back quickly, he apologized.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have been looking down at this. My mom tells me all the time I’m going to hurt myself one of these days.”
“It’s quite all right, but I think you should listen to your mom. What she says is true,” the man said with a smile.
“I guess. Are you new in town?”
“Something like that. I’m just passing through, seeing a few family members and then be on my way. Why, do you want to be my tour guide?”
Quintus felt frozen in place. The man in front of him was handsome and seemed to glow. The smile on his lips left nothing to the imagination other than the fact he was trouble, with a capital ‘T’ He was the kind of man his mother had told him to look out for and stay away from—the sexy, bad boys who would break your heart in an instant.
“I’m sorry,” he said, looking away. “I’m supposed to be meeting someone special, and I don’t want to be late.”
“A lover perhaps?” The stranger drawled quirking an eyebrow.
Quintus gave him a look that showed his annoyance at his question.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked. It’s just you seem like my type.”
Quintus ignored the last part. “Again, I’m sorry for bumping into you. I hope you get around okay.”
“I hope to see you again—” the stranger paused waiting it seemed for Quintus to say something like his name.
“Quinn,” he said, shortening his name.
“I’m Lucas. I hope to see you around town, Quinn.”
Quintus nodded, thankful he was able to move and started walking again. He didn’t turn around to look at Lucas. He didn’t want to give the man the wrong impression. Handsome he might be, but Scott was better looking...and much sexier.
