Scott walkedinto The Cafe Corner and looked around for Quintus. He was surprisedhe wasn’t there already.
“Hey, Doctor Shelton,” Reese, the host, greeted when Scott walked over to the booth.
“I’m meeting someone for lunch, and it seems they haven’t shown up yet.”
“I can seat you and get you your drink while you wait for them,” Reese said, getting two menus and walked in front of him.
Scott looked at his watch, wondering how he’d made it to the cafe before Quintus.
“Here you go,” Reese said, stopping at one of the tables in the back of the restaurant.
Scott took his seat so that he was able to see Quintus when he walked in. He looked up, noticingReese was still standing at his table looking at him.
“I’m sorry, Reese. Can you give me a few minutes to give you my drink order?”
“I…” Reese started but stopped and nodded, but he didn’t leave.
Scott watched the young man in front of him, noticing his posture. His head was cocked to the side, and he was smiling, which shouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
He seems nervous, why? Oh, shit, don’t tell me he is about to ask me out? I’m going to have to let him down easy.
“Is there something you need help with, Reese?”
“I was wondering…I mean…Would you like to go out…”
“I’m sorry, I’m late,” Quintus said.
Thank fuck. Scott sighed in relief and hoped his body language didn’t show it.
“You’re fine,” Scott said. “Reese was just keeping me company until you arrived.”
“Oh, really?” Quintus asked, looking at Reese with a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
Is he jealous?
“Leave,” Quintus said in clipped tones.
Well, my kitty has sharp claws.
Scott would have chuckled, but he found it adorable. Reese nodded and hurried off without looking back at Scott.
Quintus sat down and picked up his menu. “Gods, I’m hungry. Someone made me skip breakfast.”
Scott barked out a laugh at how quickly Quintus’s attitude changed from jealous to happy go lucky.
“What the hell is so funny?”
“You are so cute,” Scott told him in between his chuckles.
“I’m really not that cute. So, how’s your day going?”
Other than the visit from Loki, Scott’s morning went how it usually did. He saw two other patients who seemed to be improving, and it filled him with pride to know he was helping them.
“It’s going great. How’s yours?”
“Good, I spoke to Miya and Arianna about the improvements to your house, and they are on board.” He set his menu down and looked at Scott. “I didn’t mention the playroom thing, because I really don’t know what one looks like.”
