“Is this your way of telling me I’m an asshole?” Scott didn’t look at his bearer.
“Yes, but, more importantly...when were you going to tell me my younger brother was in town?”
“Not now, Bearer. Please,” Scott begged. “I need to figure out how to fix things between my mate and I.”
“I’ll yell at you about Loki later.” Braxton sighed and touched the side of his head, bringing it to his chest. “You Dracul men are so stubborn. Try telling him who you are, that will fix things. Why did you wait so long? Are you ashamed of your bloodline?”
“I don’t know,” Scott answered truthfully. “And no, I’m proud of who I am. I fucked up, all right.”
“I’ll let that curse word slide...this once,” his bearer told him. “He seems nice. I hope I get to meet him soon. Any man who can stand up to his stubborn alpha mate is a hero in my book. Even if that alpha is my son.”
“What are you doing here?” Scott asked as he leaned back from his bearer.
“My movie got done earlier than expected, and I came to see Rosemary. But I also wanted to check up on you. I noticed there was a shift in your powers. Now I can see why,” Braxton told him.
“Is that a good or a bad thing?” Scott asked in concern. He knew his parents were worried because his birthday was approaching at the end of the month.
“In your case, it’s good.” Braxton smiled. He didn’t use Baldur unless he was in the realm of the gods.
“Tell me about your sweet mate.”
“How do you know he’s sweet when you haven’t even met him?”
“I know your type,” Braxton said with a wink. “So, come on. Talk to me.”
“He’s incredible. But for some reason, I don’t think he sees himself that way.”
“We can never see ourselves the way others do.” His bearer sat on the edge of his desk. “Tell me more.”
Scott smiled and told his bearer about the man he was in love with. He left out the more lewd acts, but told Braxton everything he was learning about Quintus—the good and the bad.
“Have you told him about Alec?”
“No.”
“Why not?” Scott didn’t answer his bearer. “Scottland, for you to accept a new love you need to let go of your old one. You’re obviously in love with Quintus, but you can’t express the way you feel for him. You are holding onto the guilt of not being there for Alec. I know you’re scared, my sweet boy. But it’s time to let go of your old love. You loved Alec for twenty y years, Scottland. You will never forget your time with him.” Braxton stood and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Go to him and declare your love for him. Your sire and I are anxious to meet him. And he’s handsome. My grandbabies are going to be beautiful.”
Scott chuckled. “He is beautiful inside and out.”
“Then let him know that.” Scott held onto his bearer before he disappeared. “There’s something I need you to know.”
“If it’s about Fenrir, I already know. I have no problem with what you did. Honestly, I expected it years ago. I’ve always seen him as my son. Contrary to what others might think, he is a good man and deserves love... just like any being in the universe.”
“Thank you for not being angry,” Scott whispered.
“I know, my darling. You will make a great Odin, when the time is right.”
With that he was gone, leaving Scott to his thoughts. His mind went back to his bearer’s words of wisdom. He was right, Scott was holding back because of Alec. It was time he let go of his old love and completely accept the man he loved.
“His ghost is between us and as much as I…”
What was he going to say before he stopped himself?
Chapter Twenty-Two
“Did you think you could run away from me, boy?”
Quintus couldn’t see, nor could he move. The only thing he could figure out was that he was laying on his back with his arms and legs tied down. His heart was beating loud and fast in his chest, as if it was going to burst at any moment.
