Chapter Six
Lucas was trying to pay attention to the meeting he was currently sitting in, but his mind kept wandering back to what Shannon had said the day before. He wasn’t in a relationship with anyone, but he also didn’t correct her in her assumption.
“It all sounds great, Daniel. What do you think, Lucas?”
He hadn’t heard one word said in the meeting but agreed with Tyler anyway, he could look at the minutes later.
“Okay, guys, we will regroup later after we’ve had some lunch,” Tyler said to them.
Lucas stood then grabbed his folder and tablet and headed back to his office. His mind was a million miles away as he thought about things and was surprised when his brother stopped him.
“Hey, are you all right?”
“Yeah.” He didn’t turn to look at Tyler because he knew his brother could read him like a book.
“Don’t forget we’re meeting Christen for lunch in acouple of days.”
He nodded and entered his office closing the door behind him and throwing his tablet on his desk, then walked to his window and stood there looking out. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he contemplated a few things. Closing his eyes, Lucas rested his head on the window glass.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
“You’re starting to feel again.”Cold fingers brushed against his cheeks.Shit, now I’m crazy. I’m hearing Rebecca while I’m fucking awake.
“Remember what you promised me, Luc, that you will give love a chance once you meet someone,”was said clearly.
Lucas snapped his eyes open and looked around his office, and he was alone just as he was a few seconds before. Shaking his head, Lucas sat at his desk looking over some of his notes. When his phone vibrated in his pocket, he reached in and grabbed it, and smirked when he saw that it was Tucker. “Hey, what’s up?”
“Is your offer still available for me to stay at your place the next time I’m in your neck of the woods?” Tucker’s voice was low, and his skin prickled just hearing him speak.
“Yeah, it is.”
“Great.”
“When are you going to be here and how long are you staying this time?” He was getting excited at the prospect of seeing Tucker again.
“Remember that meeting I was supposed to be in a couple of weeks ago and had to cancel because of work?”
“Yeah.”
“It’s been rescheduled for next week this time. I will be in New York for about a week, and I did promise to take you out the next time we met up, but instead we ate at my house. So, I owe you a dinner, and I still have your jacket.”
“My jacket is the least of my concerns. Just don’t tell me you’re going to cook for me.”
Tucker snorted. “Not if you want to spend time in the hospital, let's just leave the cooking to you, and allow me to take you out. I figure with our busy schedules it could be one of the nights I’m there. What do you think?”
Lucas chuckled. Tucker basically admitted that he burned water. “Sure, why not.” He felt giddy suddenly. “I can have Tyler and Ethan watch Zoi, and they owe me anyway for all my babysitting duty.”
“You don’t have to do that, I like spending time with Zoi, even if it took her some time to warm up to me.”
“I want to,” Lucas quickly added. “You’ll get to hang with her all week. It will be a night for just us.”
“All right, it’s a date. I’ll see you next week.”
“Yeah, that sounds great, see you then.” They hung up the phone. Lucas touched his lips and realized that he was smiling.
Wait, did Tucker just ask me out on a date?
