Lucas:Meh, I had to put off world domination for another day or so, I’m working from home.
Tucker:Why?
His phone rang, and Lucas’ name popped up. He swiped his thumb over the screen and answered it.
“Zoi's sick,” he said before Tucker could say hello.
“What’s wrong, is she okay?” he asked worriedly.
“Yeah, yeah, it’s just a cold and a slight fever. She should be fine tomorrow, but she’s not a happy camper. Neither am I for that matter.”
“I can understand not wanting to deal with a sick baby,” Tucker sympathized. “She will be fine and you will be too.”
“Yeah, I know,” Lucas sighed.
They were silent for a few seconds, and Tucker hated when there was a lull in their conversation. “Hey, I’m going to be in New York for a week,” he said breaking the silence.
“Yeah,” Lucas said. “Are you staying at the same hotel?”
“I planned on it. Unless you’re inviting me to stay with you. And cook more of those delicious meals for me.” Tucker mentally winced when he realized he’d put his foot in his mouth.
“Why the hell not, I have the extra room and no sense for you to spend money if you don’t have to, even if it’s the government's,” Lucas rushed out.
“You don’t have to, I was only kidding,” Tucker said quickly.
“Well, I’m not,” Lucas told him. “I mean, I’m not going to kidnap you this time.”
Tucker smiled. “All right, pencil me in for next week. But promise me one thing,” he said.
“What’s that?”
“I get to take you out to dinner one of those nights,” Tucker said and hoped to all heaven, if it was real, that Lucas didn’t read his true intentions.
“Um . . . sure why not, I could even get Tyler to watch Zoi, he owes me one,” Lucas said. “I think I deserve a night out with a friend, to be an adult for a bit.”
There was that word "friend," meaning Lucas didn’t read into it and wouldn't see it as a date. “Cool, I’ll see you next week then.”
They hung up, and Tucker leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. One whole week off living with Lucas was going to wreak havoc on his restraints. He’d long given up trying to hold back his attraction for the other man, and there was no use hiding it. However, he had no intention of following through with his attraction. Tucker’s cock hardened thinking about the dream he had about fucking Lucas and hearing his name whispered on his lips.
Tucker had questioned if he was reading too much into things. He had to make sure that his sudden attraction for Lucas wasn’t from loneliness since he hadn’t dated since his wife died. Tucker had given in and went out to dinner with Winter Parish, the district attorney that had been asking him out for the past three years. He’d figured she’d have given up the first five times she asked him, and he said no, but she never did. When she asked him out this time, he surprised her by saying yes.
“I’m surprised you said yes to my date proposal this time, did you lose a bet or something?” Winter asked from where she was sitting across from him. Winter was beautiful, but Tucker was finding out she wasn’t his type.
“Nothing like that, it’s been a while since I’ve been out on a date and you asked.”
“So am I a pity or rebound date?”
Both, he thought but instead said, “Neither, so tell mesomething I don’t know about you.”
She took a sip of her wine looking at him over the rim of her glass. She set it down to answer him, and that was when their meal arrived. The rest of their date was filled with mostly silence, and they’d ended up skipping dessert and going their separate ways. A couple of nights later, he’d had the thought that since he was attracted to Lucas, maybe he didn’t find women interesting anymore and decided to visit a gay bar.
That was another disaster. The entire bar was filled with good-looking men, but none of them appealed to him. Even when he was approached and someone asked him to dance, he turned them down. He’d been out of the dating scene for so long, he wondered if he was doing something wrong or looking for something that wasn’t there.
After three hours of sitting at the bar not talking to anyone and nursing his soda, Tucker went home. He’d gotten a call from Lucas while he was in the club but hadn’t felt his cell phone vibrate. When he saw how late it was, he’d listened to the message Lucas had left the next morning and his cock hardened at the sound of the man’s voice; that pretty much sealed it for Tucker. He wasn’t attracted to anyone but Lucas and he wanted the man.
