I finish wiping down the table which in theory should have no varnish left with all the scrubbing I’ve done while eavesdropping the whole exchange. I grab my spray bottle and cloth before moving onto the next table.
“What about you, Kaia?” Cruiser’s voice stops me as I pass by their table. “Think you could be the girl to finally make Drew a real man?”
My eyes flick between all of them, Killian’s jaw clenching as he stares up at me, awaiting my response, an unreadable expression crossing his face like the idea of me with Drew bothers him. “Sorry, I’m gonna have to pass.”
Cruiser throws his arm around Drew who is visibly uncomfortable, his eyes fixed on the table in front of him. “Aww… two rejections in the space of a minute. My boy’s heart is shattered! How can you be so cruel, Kaia?” he teases me with a wink.
“I’m sorry, Drew. It’s not personal.”
“You bat for the other team or somethin’?”
“No, but as handsome as Drew is, apparently the clean shaven look doesn’t do it for me anymore.”
“That so?Interesting,” Cruiser says.
Wait…
Fuck!Did I say that out loud?
My eyes flick to Killian’s face for a split-second, his heated gaze burning into me and now I’m the one wishing there was a hole in the floor ready to swallowmeup.
Crap!
I abandon the table in the corner than needs a wipe down and scurry away as fast as my feet with allow, disappearing down the corridor that leads to the back rooms, my cheeks on fire.
Fuck my life.
I can’t believe I said that out loud in front of Killian and some of his crew. I don’t think I’ve ever been so humiliated in my life.
I take refuge in the small store room filled to the ceiling with boxes and crates of alcohol, pacing the small space back and forth with my face buried in my hands.
I want to die right now.
Is there a way I can stay in here until closing time without anyone wondering where I am?
The door behind me opens a minute later and I spin around to find Killian standing there, his huge body filling the doorway, silhouetted by the light that floods in from the corridor.
He steps inside and the door closes, plunging the tiny store room into darkness, the only light seeping in through the gap under the door, just enough to make out shapes and objects around me and Killian’s hulking body in front of me.
My heart thunders in my chest as he closes in on me, each of his steps forward is a step backwards of mine until my back hits the wall behind me. He rests a forearm on the wall at the side of my head, his face hovering inches above mine. There’s barely an inch of space between us and it’s like all the oxygen got sucked out of the room the second he stepped in. His musky masculine scent envelopes me, spice mixed with worn leather making me weak at the knees.
“So, I’m not your type, huh?” His deep velvet voice breaks the silence.
He reaches towards me, placing two fingers over the pulse point in my neck that throbs wildly under this touch, though it’s not the only thing that’s throbbing right now. I have to squeeze my thighs together to ease the ache that’s building there but it only makes it worse.
He brings his lips level with my ear, his beard tickling my skin. “I beg to differ, little liar.”
He catches my earlobe between his teeth and tugs gently before releasing it. He then drags the tip of his nose down the side of my neck, inhaling my scent before his tongue darts out to lick the pulse point in my neck and I have to reach out for his jacket to keep myself upright, an involuntary whimper escaping me.
Having him this close to me is making me heady. It feels unreal. I feel like I need to pinch myself to check it’s actually happening and it’s not a dream.
His hands find my hips as he sucks the spot on my neckbefore they come to rest on my lower back, pressing me up against the hardness growing inside his jeans and I gasp, my head tipping back against the wall.
He wedges a thigh between both of mine and my hips are moving before I realise, shamelessly rubbing myself against him like a cat in heat. He lets out a deep groan that rumbles through his chest, the sound sending a bolt of pleasure straight between my legs.
He pulls back a little and laughs softly. “Is my little butterfly wanting to spread her wings?”
He drags the tip of his nose over my cheek before it bumps against mine, his breath tickling my face and for a second I think he’s going to kiss me.
