“He only has love to give, and with an open heart comes the risk of it getting broken. I think that he’s scared of losing you like he did Grace.”
My heart squeezes at the thought of Dwight being afraid to love.
I glance down at clock on my phone. “I’m sorry Logan, I better get going, I have to get ready for work.”
“Oh, where do you work?” he asks.
“The restaurant just around the corner. The Plaza.”
“Yeah, I know it, got a friend who works there.” He nods as I rise up from the bench. “Well, I’ll let you go. It was nice seeing you again, Quinn.”
“Yeah, you too.” I smile, before turning and heading down the path towards the gates.
Chapter 19
Dwight
"No. Absolutely not,” I refuse.
“Come on, just come with me. Please,” Logan begs. “Man, I’ve made all the arrangements now, please don’t let me down. I need you, bro.”
“Well, you should have asked first.”
“I didn’t ask because I didn’t think you’d let me down. Look, please just do this for me. A couple hours at most and it’ll be over, I promise.”
I scratch my head, running my fingers through my hair. “A couple hours?”
He raises his hand in a three finger salute. “I swear. Scout’s honour.”
“You’re not a scout, smart ass,” I point out.
“Fine.” He drops his hand and draws an invisible cross with his finger over his heart before leaving his hand to rest there. “I cross my heart and hope to die.”
I laugh, shaking my head. “Fine, I’ll do it.”
A grin breaks out across his face. “Thanks man, I owe you one.”
“You bet your fucking ass you do.”

A couple hours later, because Logan isn’t one to give much notice beforehand, we enter the restaurant and are lead to our table where two women are already sat waiting for us.
“Hey,” Logan greets. “Mel, you’re looking beautiful tonight.” He slides into the seat beside the slim redhead and pulls her into him before kissing her long and deep.
When they finally come up for air, Mel glances across the table to her friend. “Um… this is my friend Jennifer,” she motions to an attractive blonde who is as far from my type as you could possibly get.
Her eyes give me a once over and smiles. “Hey,” she says.
“Sit down, man,” Logan says, motioning me to sit and I do. Begrudgingly.
“Hi, I’m Dwight,” I tell her.
“Jennifer, but you can call me Jen,everybodydoes. Pleasure to meet you.” She plasters on a smile, one that is way too eager, and she catches me off guard when she leans in and presses a kiss to my cheek.
The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, and I get a sense that I’m being watched. I scan the restaurant, and my eyes lock onto Quinn.
I do a double take, because I’m sure my eyes are deceiving me, but itisher. She stares at me wide-eyed from where she’s stood wiping down a table.
