He’s right. “It doesn’t hurt as much when I speak either.”
Chance’s barely there smile widens. “That’s great news. See? My hot drink did the trick. One night with Doctor Chance and you’re as good as new.”
I jump on top of him, straddling his hips. His hard-on feels delicious beneath me. “On second thought, I still feel awfully weak. I think I need another injection to make sure that I’m really on the mend.”
His strong, slightly calloused hands grab my hips. “Absolutely. I’m afraid you need long, steady therapy to avoid a relapse.” He grinds his hips to hint at what kind of therapy he’s planning to use on me, and my clit responds with an eager throb.
Growl.
“What was that?” The noise came from somewhere underneath me.
“Nothing. Ignore it.” He says, cupping my breasts and teasing my nipples with the pads of his thumbs.
Growl.
“That was your stomach.” I say as the rumble reverberates all over me.
“Yeah,” Chance sounds a little embarrassed. “I didn’t get much to eat at the Country Club, and we skipped dinner last night. I’m kinda starving.”
I feel responsible for that. “And you have practice today, right? We can’t have you skating on a totally empty stomach.”
My stepbrother sighs, a pained expression on his too handsome face. “It’s almost six a.m. and we have to be at the arena at seven. I have to choose between breakfast or continuing what we were about to start.”
The choice is easily made. If he doesn’t eat something soon, he’ll pass out on the ice.
“Come on. We can take a rain check on this. But Coach Harrison is a scary-looking man. You don’t want to be late topractice or pass out in front of him.” I slide off of him, and my feet land on the carpet of Ares’s bedroom.
Chance follows me with another grumble. “Do you want to grab breakfast with me then? You can come to practice if you want. Or Ares should be back soon from his night shift.”
“I think I should go home. I have a couple of missed calls and texts from my mom. She’s worried about me, and if we hurry, I’ll catch her before she goes to work.”
He nods. “No problem. We can get some breakfast for her too. Just let her know. If I put in an order now at Tilly’s Bakery, it should be ready to pick up in ten minutes, and it’s on our way home. They have a new line of high protein smoothies. I’ll get one of those and a couple of breakfast sandwiches for after practice. What would you like, baby? And what do you think Kelly wants?”
I give him my order and then head to the bathroom, but Chance turns me around and grabs me by the waist.
“Maybe we could sneak in a quickie before we go.” He says, nuzzling the space between my neck and shoulder.
That sounds good, but I know that if we start anything, we’ll get carried away and he’s going to be late for practice.
“I think we should get ready and be out of the door, Dr. Chance,” I tease, slapping his rock-hard ass as I slip out of his embrace and catch my reflection in the mirror above Ares’s dresser. “I still have to find something to wear around my neck. If my mom sees these nasty bruises, she’s going to have a million questions I’d prefer not to answer.”
Thankfully, I found a scarf in Ares’s closet. The weather is getting chillier in the morning, and I can justify the scarf by saying my throat still feels a little scratchy.
Before I know it, we have our breakfast, and Chance pulls up in our driveway.
It’s crazy that I had never seen this place until a couple of months ago and now it feels like home more than any other place I’ve lived in.
“Maybe I shouldn’t come in.” Chance hesitates when we get to the front door. “Lev told Kelly that you were gonna stay at his house last night. She knows that Lev and I are almost always together, but I think it’s gonna look weird if we show up without him and in Ares’s Jeep.”
I’m glad Chance thought about it. “Yeah, Mom is going to ask us a million questions, and I’d rather not have to lie to her more than I already do.”
“I’ve been thinking about it, baby.” He says softly, lacing his fingers through mine as he walks me to the door. “I want to speak to Dad. I want to tell him that I love you and I don’t care if he cuts me off, but he can’t stop me from being with you.”
I turn to look at him as we get to the front door. “Are you sure? I mean, I would love not to have to hide the way I feel about you. But what about Lev? I’m supposed to be his girlfriend. And there’s Ares, too.”
He sighs. “I know. If we want to have a future together, there’s only one possible way forward. We have to be honest with our family about our relationship.”
Chance is right. “I know. But do you really think Mom and Scott, and Lev’s parents are going to accept our relationship?”
