Yet here they were, closing in on the air lock door.
As they got closer, one of the other guards on the door opened the air lock.
Marcin hesitated.
Wait.
What did he see?
A ship was docked on the other side of the air lock.
They stopped in front of the lock on his side, and the lock on the ship's side opened, revealing a basic Terran military transport.
Now Marcin really was confused.
Another set of guards appeared. They, however, were in military regalia, not the uniforms the guards wore.
Soldiers, not the guards. Two males and a female.
They came through the air lock. One stepped to Marcin’s side.
"We have them," a prison guard said as he tightened his grip on Marcin's arm.
He glanced at the Terran, wondering if this was some sort of dominance of power display that humanoids were known to do.
"I have orders to take possession," the military man said.He had far more markings on his uniform than the guards who had been walking them to the airlock."Surrender the prisoners to us."
The prison guards did not like being ordered around by the military men.
"No."
The lead soldier raised his weapon."This is not up for debate."
"The Emperor will not tolerate this," the front most prison guard said.
As if this guard was a good friend of the leader of the Terran Empire, Marcin thought. He wasn't sure the humanoid knew how to clean himself, much less conduct himself in the presence of an emperor.
Not that Marcin had much to say.
Hygiene was not something that was emphasized here.
"You seem to think the Emperor is not aware of this," one of the military men said.
The guard sputtered.
“Yet here you are.”The female soldier came forward."You are outranked by the Terran Military.Do as you’re told."
The guard did not like that and lunged at her.She used a move that hit and sent the guard to the ground.
It was not enough to incapacitate him, merely to send him out of her way.The guard, however, did not stay down, and attacked her again.
Marcin found it interesting that the guard attacked her, not the other males.Females were typically the weaker of most humanoid species, so why did the guard go after her, and not after one of the others, for a more even fight?
Did he lack confidence in his abilities?
One of the other soldiers stepped in the way."Enough!"
The female stood up straighter and shifted to a military rest pose."Yes, sir!"
